Perfect leather case that works with the headphones’ features.
When I got my AirPods Max headphones several months ago, I was completely taken with them. They provide a premium listening experience and made me appreciate music and audio tracks for videos in a whole new way. Since they quickly became my favorite over-the-ear headphones, I wanted to make sure they were protected well. All AirPods Max headphones come with a Smart Case that helps to preserve the battery life of the headphones, but since it’s a soft-sided case, it doesn’t provide too much in the way of protection from standard travel activities. Fortunately, one of my favorite premium accessory companies, Woolnut, has designed a special leather case for the AirPods Max.
DETAILS
The Leather Case for the AirPods Max is designed specifically to fit with the AirPods Max from Apple. There are three color choices – black, brown, and green. There are magnets incorporated into the interior of the case to activate the low-power mode of the headphones. There is a cutout on the bottom of the case that is meant for a Lightning charging cable so that the headphones can recharge inside the case. The exterior of the case is adorned with full-grain Scandinavian leather and the interior is lined with super soft microfiber. There are also elastic straps built into the interior that keep essential accessories such as chargers, cables, and other items secure. The zipper is a YKK EXCELLA metal zipper from Japan. The piece is designed to be slim so that it minimizes bulk and it matches other Woolnut accessories.

USER EXPERIENCE
The case has a somewhat plain retail package. It is a brown cardboard box that has the name “Woolnut Leather Case” stamped on the front along with an outline of the case design and the subtitle of “fits AirPods Max”. The materials and color are also indicated on the front of the box. The back highlights a lot of the main details of the case including the fact that it has a magnet inside, that you can charge the headphones through the case, and the materials used to make the case.
When you open the box you will find the case wrapped in a linen bag. The case has the brand name “Woolnut” embossed on the front of it. The leather is soft but firm and it has that classic leather smell. I have the Cognac color, which is a rich brown tone. I love this color because it feels professional and personal at the same time. The zipper is easy to grab a hold of and while it was a little stiff to unzip the first time, I was able to open up the case with little problem and the zipper didn’t get caught at all. You will find packaging paper wadded up to help the case keep its shape while it’s in its retail box.
The interior of the case is very soft and the headphones slip right into place. I’m thrilled with the way the case holds the headphones and think it’s a great option for storing and transporting the AirPods Max. The Lighting port is easily accessible through the cutout and the zipper did loosen up a bit after using it a few times. If I had any suggestions for improving the design, it would be to add a handle of some sort onto the case so that it could easily be carried on its own. That said, the fact that the case does not have a handle is not a dealbreaker for me.
CONCLUSION
Finding a suitable case for the AirPods Max can be a difficult feat considering the fact that designers have to plan for the low-power battery function of the headphones. Woolnut’s case is pretty near perfect for the AirPods Max. It’s a great design and it takes care of the main features of the headphones. I would recommend this case to anyone who wants to protect their AirPods Max.
