Wal-Mart offers iPhones at a lower price.
In a move that is classic for retailers prior to a new launch of a new iPhone model, Wal-Mart has announced a dramatic price drop in the iPhone 5S and 5C models. The iPhone 5C models are dropping in price from $49 to $29 and the 5S model from $149 to $99. These prices are for the 16GB model of each type of iPhone and with a 2-year contract with AT&T, Sprint or Verizon.
These discounts are only available in Wal-Mart store currently, but history will tell us that other major retailers will probably follow suit. This is either a strategic move because the market has slowed for iPhone 5C and 5S models or Wal-Mart is making preparations for the rollout of a new iPhone model. To date, Apple has not announced the launch of the iPhone 6, but it is highly anticipated for the fall.
This discount is not currently apart of a larger Apple offer, Wal-Mart has permanently reduced the iPhone price for new customers with a 2-year activation contract.
Best Buy is also offering a discounted rate on iPhone 5C and 5S models, but they are only sale prices. The 5C is available for $69 (regular price $99) and the 5S is available for $99 (regular price $199). Costco began selling iPhones online this week at a discounted price with the 16GB iPhone 5S models starting at $77.99.
Wal-Mart’s price drop is effective starting today for all purchases made in-store. For more information visit, walmart.com.
