The most beautiful and intuitive alarm for iPhone & iPad.
There are some people who can wake up without an alarm. I am not one of those people. For some time, I have used the alarm clock on my iPhone as my primary alarm. Even though it works, it has its flaws. It’s basic and functions, but it’s not very pretty and doesn’t have many options. Wake Alarm Clock for iOS is a good solution to this problem.
For starters, Wake Alarm Clock is a very clean app. When you open it for the first time, you are greeted with a simple screen with a clock in the center. Every control available in the app is accessible through swiping gestures. If you swipe up, you are taken to the ‘Store’ which has some freebies, additional alarm sounds and more alarms as purchasing categories. If you swipe down, your saved alarms are displayed. If an alarm is active, it glows orange. From this screen, you can select an alarm to change its settings.
When you swipe to the right, you enter ‘night mode,’ which dims the screen and when you swipe left, you are met with all the settings available for the app. The interface is very easy to use and intuitive. It’s meant for a user to be able to open, and within a few taps and/or swipes, be done with it. Some of the features of Wake include:
- Simple gesture-based UI for setting and interacting with alarms
- Spin the dial to easily set alarms
- iTunes alarm support – wake up to your own audio every morning
- Create up to 8 repeatable alarms
- Swipe down to view alarms and pull down to switch them on/off
- Personalize with 12 exclusive built-in alarm sounds
- Set recurring alarms for any day of the week
- Progressive alarm sounds that get louder gradually
- Visually stunning and perfect for iOS8
Now, what makes this app truly unique is the Slap, Flip, Shake method it employs to wake a person up. Here’s how it works. In addition to the traditional noise that an alarm clock plays to interrupt your sleep, Wake tries to get you to be more active about turning said alarm off. Instead of just slapping a snooze button on a bedside clock, Wake encourages you to –
SLAP & FLIP: Equipped with a virtual Snooze Button and perfect for anyone craving a few extra moments of sleep.
SHAKE: Ideal for deep sleepers who need more than a traditional alarm clock to wake them from their stupor.
SWIPE: A simple option for dreamers who like to keep things basic.
So how has it worked for me? Well, I can say that it’s been successful at waking me up and I even feel like I’m starting to break myself of that nasty snooze button habit. While I’m on that subject, one of the features I adore about this app is that you can choose the length of time for the snooze. There are predetermined times – 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes – but, you still have the option to change it, whereas most alarms, including the built-in alarm clock on the iPhone, doesn’t allow any modification of the snooze alarm.
If you are looking for a better way to wake up, check out Wake Alarm Clock for iOS. It’s currently free in the app store, but has a regular retail price of $3.99.
