A worthy investment for iPhone users.
When the iPhone 7 was released two years ago, I adapted to the elimination of the headphone jack on the phone by switching almost exclusively to wireless headphones. This was definitely the direction Apple hoped its users would go, but I will admit that as much as I love my AirPods, I will still from time-to-time use Apple’s wired headphones. And, since I have an iPhone 7, I’ve noticed that my battery life isn’t what it used to be. So, I end up spending a lot of my days tethered to a Lightning cable. I hate having to switch back and forth between headphones and charging so I looked into splitters and was introduced to the Duo 2 cable from Vinpok. It’s been a godsend for the times that I need headphones and charging capabilities at the same time.
Vinpok is a new company to me so I did a bit of research on it. It was founded in 2017 by Jackie Yang and has the mission of creating innovative and fashionable iPhone and MacBook accessories. They offer a wide variety of cables and accessories for Apple products including the Vinpok Duo, which is the predecessor to the Duo 2. The Duo cable, like the Duo 2, supports Lightning Earpods as well as charging, but it’s a very short — only about 3 inches — cable/connector. The Duo 2 is a full-length cable measuring approximately 3.3 feet long. The output of the cable is 5V/1A.
The Duo 2 is a braided cable made of nylon fabric. It’s tangle-free and extremely durable. Vinpok guarantees that it’s compatible with future iOS updates. In addition to supporting Lightning earphones and charging of the iOS devices, the Duo 2 also supports remote control and phone call features. It adopts 24-bit, 48 kHz audio transmission (Apple original sound quality). The Duo 2 is compatible with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, too.
They say the first impression is always the most important. Well, Vinpok’s Duo 2 leaves quite the impression. It arrives in a round, hard shell carrying case. It’s just big enough for the cable and a set of Apple Earpods and/or the headphone adapter from Apple. There is a small mesh pocket that is ideal for storing your Apple headphones or other small accessories. The case has a zippered closure and is convenient for carrying around in your pocket. The first test I ran was to charge my phone with it without anything else connected. In the span of 1 hour and 40 minutes, the phone gained 52% battery charge. I found that using headphones at the same time as the didn’t affect the power distribution to the phone. I was also able to sync my iPhone with iTunes with no issues.
The Duo 2 is a very handy cable to have around. I really like that it gives you the option to charge your phone and not have your listening experience interrupted. I wish more cables had this type of dual-purpose existence. Vinpok has just launched their Indiegogo campaign in order to go into mass production in April 2018. Vinpok hopes to start shipping the Duo 2 in May. Vinpok has the cable’s Indigogo launch price listed at $19, which is less than a standard Apple Lightning cable of the same length. I believe the Duo 2 to be a great investment for iPhone users.
