Video sharing made super easy with a Mac utility app.
When people think about online video sharing, they usually think about YouTube first. I know I used to. I actually prefer using Vimeo especially for smaller, shorter form videos like product demos. Vimeo has been online and available since 2004 and it was created by a group of filmmakers who wanted an easy, beautiful way to share videos with others. Now, it’s home to more than 70,000,000 creators worldwide. Until recently the only way to upload videos was to open your internet browser and visit vimeo.com. Now, there is a utility app for Mac users that makes working with Vimeo just a little bit easier.
Details & User Experience
Vimeo for Mac is a menu bar utility app that allows you to view the videos on your profile as well as upload videos from your computer. With Vimeo for Mac you can seamlessly export ProRes files directly to your Vimeo account and get instant access embed codes. This app actually integrates with Final Cut Pro so that your post-production workflow is uninterrupted. Some of the main features of Vimeo for Mac include:
- Upload directly to your Vimeo account
- Adjust the title, description, and privacy settings for your videos
- Get instant access to video links and video review pages
- Receive notifications about important video activity
Vimeo for Mac is available in English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The app is currently on version 1.1 and is free to download. Users must have at least macOS 10.12 (Sierra) to be compatible.
To be 100% honest, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that there was a Mac App for Vimeo. I love using Vimeo because it’s so simple and it just plain works. The one issue I had with it was that I had to use a browser to access the system. Now that there is an easy to use Mac utility app for it, don’t even have to visit the webpage if I don’t want to. Using the app is simple. You just open it and log in then you can start uploading. I love the layout of the app, too. It’s a very clean list of videos from your account complete with a thumbnail.
I can recommend the app to all types of Vimeo users. It’s a free download and covers all the main bases of Vimeo use. It doesn’t take many system resources and because it’s a menu bar utility it’s always there but not in the way. I can’t remember a time I was so excited about a Mac app.
