Varsity Tutors brings test prep to the web and mobile devices.

With the world becoming more electronic by the day, students are turning towards their smartphones and tablets to help with their lessons. Luckily, learning institutions are taking the lead in ensuring that students have the tools they need to succeed. Once such tool is is an educational resources that includes the world’s largest database of free practice tests, more than 40,000 written problems, and access to local tutors in areas across the US. Varsity Tutors has been featured nationally in the Chicago Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Huffington Post, CBS, FOX and NBC. Along with the practice tests and studying resources, Varsity Tutors gives users access to exceptional tutors that are vetted against rigorous qualifications and background checks.

Having gone through many tests in my educational days, I can say that a tool like Varsity Tutors would have come in handy. The resources that it provides to students is invaluable. Varsity Tutors has a test prep section that includes practice tests for the most popular high school, graduate school and K-8 tests. Some of the tests included are:

  • ACT
  • SAT
  • PSAT
  • MCAT
  • GRE
  • LSAT
  • AIMS
  • ISAT
  • SSAT

varsitytutors-2While I was most impressed with the test prep that Varsity Tutors offers, I can’t ignore the academic tutoring section. The regular academics tutoring section includes the main topics of education – math, science, foreign language, etc. – along with specific subjects like Anatomy, Biology, etc. Again, this is a wonderful tool for today’s students to have at their disposal.

In addition to the website resource, Varsity Tutors also has options for smartphones and tablets. I installed the iOS version of Varsity Tutors on my iPhone 5 and was impressed with the ease of use of the app versus the website. For example, the website seems to be a great connection tool for students to tutors and the app is a portal to utilize the free study resources like the tests, flashcards and problems. You can also connect with tutors and negotiate prices with them from the app, but it’s more suited for studying.

All in all, and its companion apps are worth using. It is a free service to use, but there is a charge involved if you end up hiring a tutor. For more information, visit
