Cases that capture functionality and protection in perfect harmony.

One of my favorite things about getting new phones is the search for a new case. It can be frustrating, but it can also be exciting! Everyone has their personal preference as to what type of case suits them and their personality and these days, there is a case for everyone and every style. When I look for new cases I look for style, functionality, and how comfortable it is to use. The new Metropolis LT Series case and the Metropolis Leather Wallet Series cases for iPhone 12 models meet all these characteristics and exceeded my expectations on every level.

The Metropolis Series provides 360-degree protection for the iPhone. The case has a seamless fabric inlay folio cover that doubles as a stand to provide hands-free viewing of videos for users. The folio cover has storage for three cards. The case features impact-resistant bumpers & oversized tactile buttons. There are three variants of the Metropolis case – Smooth Finish PU (SATN), Supple Italian Leather (LTHR), and High strength abrasion-resistant fabric, Armortex (FIBR).

USER EXPERIENCE

Both the Metropolis and the Metropolis LT come in UAG branded boxes that is obviously designed for a retail shelf. The box has a semi-transparent cover so that you can see what style case is stored inside. The back of the box has a nice image of the case with the features called out. The variation I received of the Metropolis is the LTHR ARMR Brown and the Metropolis LT is the FIBR ARMR Black version. The box for the Metropolis LT provides a little additional information about that material with the following block of text.

“Made with FIBRARMR: Designed to protect. Engineered to withstand. FIBR ARMR combines a drop-tested armor shell with high strength abrasion resistant fabrics to protect your device from whatever life may throw at you.”

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to try out the UAG Metropolis case for a different model iPhone. At the time, the case had a magnetic closure that made using the case a bit on the difficult side of things because you had to fumble with the magnetic flap in order to open the cover. Now, the magnetic closure is gone and you can easily flip the cover open with a flick of the wrist or motion of the hand. The cover does not control the sleep/wake function of the phone like an iPad cover would. I do love the updates made to the Metropolis case, but don’t think it’s the best case for my personal use. There are three card slots and that is the most that the wallet portion of the case can hold. If you place more than one card in each slot, the material will get stretched out and the cards might fall out.

Both versions of the Metropolis case are easy to install. While each case is designed to be a protective case, the sides are still a bit flexible and it’s easy to pull them back to press the phone into the case. I didn’t have any issues with getting my phone to fit into either case and felt that each case protected my phone adequately. The ports and buttons were easy to access and press on either case although it was easier to find the volume buttons on the Metropolis LT when the cover of the Metropolis is closed.

Even though I really like the improvements that were made on the Metropolis case, I thing the Metropolis LT is the case for me. It feels great when you hold it and everything is very functional on it. One of the biggest features that stands out on the LT version for me is the absence of a cover. For me, this is preferred simply because I feel like covers sometimes get in the way.

CONCLUSION

The Metropolis series case has been a favorite of mine for a very long time. In fact, whenever anyone wants a recommendation for an iPad case, I automatically point them to the Metropolis series case for iPad. I always thought the Metropolis case for iPhone was a little too bulky, but this Lite version of the series is PERFECT. It’s very lightweight and it just hugs the sides of the phone so that it feels natural when you hold it. Even though I might try out other cases as they become available, I think I will always come back to the Metropolis LT as my daily driver.
