A candle that is designed to inspire.
The team at Twelve South does a beautiful job of not only designing products that work with Apple devices but also creating inspirational objects that are innovative in their own right. Last year, the product designers at Twelve South ushered in the release of the new MacBook Pro with a very special guest — the New Mac candle. Designed to smell like a new Mac computer, the hand-poured candle was a very nice addition to my office. This year, Twelve South has again released a candle that is not meant to remind of you new electronics but is instead intended to help inspire you to create new and wonderful things with your technology.
Inspire is a candle that truly smells wonderful. It is 100% soy and just like its predecessor, it’s hand-poured. The candle has received an upgrade to a 60-70 burn time (with regular use) and it’s a bit larger than the previous candle at 9.5 ounces. Inspire comes in a new jar with a lid. The jar is a soft white color and has a pale gray interior that catches flickering candlelight nicely. The jar allows the candle to fit with any style of home or office decor you might have.
The first thing I noticed — and you probably will, too — is the candle’s strong aroma. When I took the lid off, I was immediately hit with the soft scent of citrus. This is different from the New Mac candle. I remember that with that candle, you couldn’t really smell it until it was lit. That’s not true of Inspire. It’s not overpowering, but it’s definitely fragrant. The scent is a blend of bergamot, armoise, lemon, tarragon, amber, and musk. Twelve South chose this scent profile for its ability to help clear your mind of clutter and stimulate creativity.
Once the candle was lit, it seemed to burn evenly and emitted a pure, clean odor that filled the room. I let it burn for a couple of hours while I worked and I have to say that I did seem more relaxed than normal. I felt as though it was a little easier for me to write and that thoughts were a bit clearer and more descriptive than normal. I don’t know if that had to do with the candle directly, but it is worth noting since the scent is supposed to inspire users.
Even though the inspire is not a tech gadget, it is a wonderful item sold by an awesome team of Apple enthusiasts. They actually describe the candle and how it fits in the tech community perfectly on their website:
Twelve South makes accessories exclusively for Apple.
The Inspire [mac candle N°2] is our small tribute to the Mac.
Why? Because that’s what inspires us.
In addition to producing a wonderful accessory for Apple users to enjoy, Twelve South has also partnered with First, a charity that strives to motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science and technology-related fields. Since it’s designed to inspire, I think this is a perfect option for Twelve South and the candle. If you are looking to clear your mind of clutter, try pairing your workspace with the Inspire [mac candle N°2].
