HiRise 2 provides a smaller footprint and sturdy stand for charging your iPhone.
There is nothing worse than having a device that you carelessly lay on your nightstand or desk to charge. I’ve always looked for the perfect stand to use on my desk and on my nightstand to charge my phone. I want something that will allow me to see the screen when getting calls and notifications, but I also want something that is flawlessly designed. When I say this, I want to see a clean product that gets the job done, but isn’t the flashiest thing in the room. Twelve South does this really well with the HiRise 2 Deluxe stand for iPhone.
Twelve South originally released the HiRise charging stand in 2013. At that time it was compatible with the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini. The stand was designed to match the Apple brand style which was finished off with a gorgeous brushed aluminum finish. Since it’s original release, Twelve South has refreshed the stand and launched new colors to match new iPhone colors like Gold and Rose Gold. It’s a great stand that I’ve had the pleasure of using with older model iPhones and I’ve liked it so much that I was ecstatic to hear that Twelve South was releasing another refresh of the stand to match the newest iPhones. To this day, the HiRise continues to be one of the most solid iPhone docks around.
The HiRise stand is the perfect place to store your phone or iPad and be able to use it hands-free. The stand sits almost 4 inches tall, which is a very comfortable height for FaceTime and Skype. Because it’s a pedestal style stand, HiRise provides an unobstructed base for the iPhone and doesn’t block its speakers. This makes it ideal for hands-free video conferencing as well as standard phone calls. I don’t typically keep my phone in a case, but the HiRise is designed to accommodate the iPhone with or without a case. It will even work with battery cases.
Even though the HiRise is designed and most widely used with the iPhone, you can charge anything Lightning compatible with it. All models of the iPad – except the 12.9-inch iPad Pro – can be used with it as well as the Apple TV Remote. I’ve personally used the stand for charging my iPhone 7 Plus, Apple TV Remote, and my iPad Air 2.
Now that I’ve described the HiRise’s history and what it’s meant for, I will detail the differences between the original stand and its successor. Twelve South did a really nice job of refreshing the HiRise to include some great new features with it. For starters, it’s one-third smaller than the original. They did this to help reduce desktop clutter. Even though it’s smaller, Twelve South made the HiRise 2 twice as heavy to add stability so that when you charge your iPad on it, you don’t have to worry about the stand tipping over.
Because it’s meant to be a complement to the iPhone 7, HiRise 2 has some very elegant curves that its predecessor didn’t have. In addition to the classic silver finish, Twelve South has included two new colors – Technical Black to match the Jet Black and Black iPhones as well as the Matte White to meld within home settings.
Since I had the original HiRise, testing was quite easy. Out of the box, all I had to do was attached the top to the base and route the Lighting cable. The smaller footprint and thicker, more rounded base are really welcome changes to me. I also love Twelve South also includes a black Lightning cable with the stand so that it blends in perfectly. The black color of the stand melds perfectly with the Black iPhone 7 Plus. The two match so well that when the iPhone is on the stand, you can’t really see where the phone stops and the stand begins. The stand is a strong, elegant option for charging your iPhone.
I’ve been a super fan of Twelve South for many years and anyone who has been around the Apple ecosystem can tell you the team at Twelve South really makes some great products. The HiRise 2 is a fantastic evolution of one of Twelve South’s most popular products.
