A new stand for a new iPad.
When Apple announced the release of the new Apple iPad Pro, I was elated. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and it was part of my investment in Apple products for the Fall (iPhone Xs Max, Apple Watch Series 4, MacBook Pro-Late 2018 and the 11-inch iPad Pro). I have had every model of iPad that has been released and I always look forward to getting and testing out different accessories for those devices. A few years back, I tested out the Compass 2 from Twelve South and loved using that stand so much with my iPad, that I was ecstatic to find that Twelve South had redesigned the accessory to better match the newest iPad Pro model.
DETAILS
The Compass Pro is a versatile all-metal, folding stand that is designed specifically to hold the new iPad Pro perfectly for creating with the tablet. The stand will hold the iPad in three different angles – vertically and horizontally. The Compass Pro can be used as a hands-free display stand which is perfect for typing and/or sketching. The stand is built from solid steel and has soft silicone on its feet and other places to keep the iPad safely in place while it’s on the stand. The Compass Pro — like its predecessors — will fold flat to go wherever your iPad goes. Even though this model has been redesigned to complement the new iPad Pro, it is compatible with all iPad models.
- Holds iPad at three different angles for hands-free (or hands-on) use
- Super-stable metal design supports even the largest 12.9 iPad Pro
- 2nd leg tilts iPad up to a more comfortable typing or sketching angle
- Folds flat for complete portability and works with most iPad covers & cases
USER EXPERIENCE
The Compass Pro comes packaged with a canvas sleeve that is designed for the transport of the stand. The stand, when folded up, slides into the sleeve perfectly and can be dropped into any bag or carrying case along with your iPad. When I compare the Compass Pro to the Compass 2 (my previous tablet stand), I would say that the Compass Pro is ‘softer’. The edges are more rounded than the Compass 2 and it just seems like a more polished version.
I’m an avid fan of art and at one point in time, drawing was a stress release for me. It’s been a long time since I’ve sketched on a regular basis, but the day my 11-inch iPad Pro arrived, I sit down with it in our living room, propped it up on the Compass Pro and started drawing. The Compass Pro is the perfect — and I mean perfect — option for any content creators who use the iPad Pro. The stand is perfectly balanced for use as an easel for the iPad. I love that the feet on the stand — the ones that keep the tablet from slipping off of it — are reinforced with silicone, too.
CONCLUSION
The design of the Compass Pro is quite impressive. It is one of the ‘must have’ accessories that I recommend to any new iPad users. It’s beautifully built and is a great complement to the Apple device. The stand retails for approximately $60 and while that might be a bit high for a mobile device stand, the Compass Pro is well worth the investment due to the fact that Twelve South designers made sure it was ideal for content creators.

Hope that is sturdier than it looks. Would like to try it and hope to see it at lower price.
It is very sturdy. Much more sturdier than earlier versions that were offered prior to the 2018 iPad Pro. You can easily go with the earlier versions if you have a 10.5 or older. The Pro model is a perfect device for the 2028 iPad Pro!
