Trianium Atomic S iPhone 6 Battery Case Review

A superior battery case for the iPhone.

I have a love/hate relationship with phone battery cases. I really love what they bring to the experience of using a phone and the fact that your battery life is increased by double. But, I don’t like the extra bulk it adds to the phone itself. There are a lot of slim cases out there that add enough protection, but of course, they don’t add extra power for your phone. The Atomic S Battery Case for the iPhone 6 by Trianium, is a slimmer battery case that really works well.

First Impressions

Out of the box, the battery case looks similar to most other battery cases I’ve seen. It has two pieces to it – the main battery case and the outer locking bumper. The two pieces just snap together. Trianium includes a headphone extension and a Micro USB charging cable for the case. Installing the iPhone is easy enough. You slide the phone onto the Lightning cable and it locks into place. Then, you snap the bumper cover on top. One feature of the case that is a bit unusual, but appreciated. There is a long opening at the top of the phone for the camera. Most battery cases only have an opening just large enough for the camera and flash. As a result, sometimes you get a reflection or blur from the side of the case. Because this case provides an opening large enough, that problem is no longer and issue.

Use

I have been using the Atomic battery case for the past couple of days with my iPhone 6. I’ve found it to be exemplary in performance. I’ve not noticed my iPhone’s performance or signal dropping due to it being in this case and I like the feel of it. I’ve placed phone calls, listened to music and used Siri while my phone has been in this case and found it to be above average as a battery case. One thing I did notice is that the case get a little warm after streaming music for a short period of time. I will admit that I’ve found this to be true of my phone when it’s in other cases, too. So, it may not be caused by this battery case. Because it’s a 3100 mAh battery, you should get two full charges for your iPhone 6 from it.

One of the really fun perks of using a battery case with an iPhone 6 is that you can utilize the ‘Hey Siri’ feature of iOS 9 without being tethered to a wall. Since all that is required for that feature to work with the iPhone 6 is to be connected to power, having a battery case with the power turned on fulfills that requirement. I drove to the grocery store with the case on my phone and asked Siri about the following day’s appointments without having to touch the phone. It’s a great work around for that feature.

Conclusions

While I wouldn’t consider myself an ‘expert’ when it comes to battery cases, I would say that I’ve had a lot of experience with them. And this one is one of the best ones I’ve tried. It’s got a slimmer form than most in the market and it provides superior performance as a battery.

UPDATE 10/14/15: Only a couple of days after publishing this review, I had a small mishap with my phone. I was reaching to place the phone onto a counter top and missed. The phone, still in the Atomic S Battery Case, fell on the hard tile floor below. It made a terrible loud noise and the top bumper popped off and slide across the room. The phone was face down. I dreaded picking it up – sure that the screen was going to be completely demolished. Fortunately, the case took the impact completely and the phone was not harmed at all. I am sad that the case ended up getting damaged, but grateful that it was designed to protect the phone within.
