Never run out of juice again with this credit card sized battery pack.
We’ve all been there – our phone batteries running on empty and we have miles to go before we can charge. So, what do you do? There are many different styles of external battery packs that are available, but then you have to carry around a charging cable as well. These empty battery circumstances usually happen when you least expect it. So, how do you be prepared for the unexpected?
I used to carry a Nomad ChargeCard in my wallet to have that charging cable always available. I just recently found that it had completely fallen apart on me from using it daily for years. Once I discovered its demise, I needed to find a new charging accessory that I could keep with me in my wallet and that wouldn’t leave me searching for a cable. Unfortunately and fortunately for me there are no other great card style Lightning cables around. This lead me to look at slim style batteries. The question for me was would I find a thin enough battery with a Lightning cable attached? The answer is yes.
TravelCard is a ultra slim 1500 mAh battery. At only 4.9mm 3/16 of an inch thick, it fits nicely in my wallet. It’s got a Lightning cable built into the battery for quick and easy hassle-free charging. The TravelCard even has a button on it to activate an indicator light so you know if you have power. Because it has a built-in Lightning cable, it will only work with Lightning capable iOS devices – iPhone 6, 6 plus, iPhone 5s, 5c, iPod touch 5th generation, iPod nano 7th generation – sorry, Android users.
When it comes to battery packs, 1500 mAh is not great by any means. But, when you’re out and about and stuck with no option to charge your phone, 1500 mAh becomes a life saver. Depending on the device, that size battery will usually give you an additional 4-5 hours of talk time, 96 hours of standby time and maybe 4 hours of internet usage. In an emergency, that is plenty to call for help.
During testing, I used the TravelCard to charge up by iPhone 6 Plus. When I did, my phone was under 10% battery life. As expected by the capacity of the battery, it charged up my phone like a champ and built up the battery to about 50% before being completely discharged.
Because of the slim fit design and built-in Lightning cable, the TravelCard is one of the most portable charging options around. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to review it and look forward to many future uses of it.
