totallee thin cases provide protection and emphasize style for the iPhone.

I am a big supporter of protection for mobile phones. I’ve had too many accidents happen to not keep my precious iPhone wrapped up tight. Even though I prefer to keep my phone in a case, I know there are a lot of people who don’t. They feel that because the iPhone was designed with such flair and panache that the engineers made it durable enough to survive on its own. I’ve seen enough wear and tear to warrant and extra layer of protection. So, I continually look for various cases that will serve different activities. totallee, a minimalist phone case designer, has created very slim cases for the iPhone product line and I’ve been fortunate enough to test out all three of them over the past week.

The Doberman (iPhone 6/6s)
Besides having a creative name, the Doberman case is only 0.06” thick. It offers a balance between protection and form factor. There is a very small bezel to protect the screen when it’s placed face-down on a surface. There is a cutout on the back that reveals the Apple logo and the camera/flash. The power and volume buttons are covered, but functional, just a little stiff while the mute toggle remains uncovered. The bumper-style case does a nice job of keeping the phone protected while still being stylish and slim. The Doberman helps to protect your phone against surface scratches and offers some drop protection, too. It’s available for all the iPhones from the iPhone 5 to the current iPhone 7 series, but it’s only available in black. It’s a really nice compliment to the black on the iPhone 7, but and has a little bit of a rubberized feel which helps a lot with traction when you handle the phone. I personally like this style of case because it doesn’t cover up the design of the iPhone – it compliments it.

The Spy (iPhone 6s Plus)
The aptly named spy is ideal for showing off the iPhone’s design because it’s 100% transparent. The case is only 0.04” thick and offers slightly less protection than the Doberman. There is a slight bezel that helps protect the screen when it’s face down on a surface and all the ports are completely accessible. The iPhone I was testing out with the Spy has previously been damaged through regular use and I was happy to have an added layer of protection. It has a nice rubber feel to add a bit of traction so that the phone stays secure in your hand. It’s a nice option for those who want protection and the style of the iPhone emphasized.

The Scarf (iPhone 7)
If the Doberman is built for protection first and style second, then the Scarf is its mirror opposite. Only 0.02” thick, the Scarf is an iPhone case truly designed to be minimal. It is thicker than a sheet of paper (0.0039 inches), but it doesn’t feel like it is by much. It’s considered ultra thin and offers scratch protection. I like this case because what it doesn’t offer in drop protection, it makes up for with grip. The texture of the case is slightly less rough than sandpaper, but you can definitely feel grit. The Scarf is available in five different colors – white, black, gray, navy blue, and red – and is available for phones from iPhone 5 through iPhone 7. The contour of the case is so brilliant that it just wraps around the iPhone 7 like a glove. The Scarf does not offer anything in the way of screen protection, so I would recommend a screen shield if that’s of concern to you. This case is just enough to keep your phone in pristine shape against the elements, but if you drop it, I wouldn’t expect much impact coverage. But, because it’s so thin, it can tear if you take it on and off the phone too much.
