Tomtoc laptop sleeve provides a clean, modern aesthetic and protection for your MacBook Pro.
Whenever I travel or even just work remotely, I like to ensure my laptop’s protection. I typically use a larger laptop bag so that I can take several accessories, but for smaller jaunts to a coffee shop or a short library trip, a sturdy laptop sleeve will do the trick. The Tomtoc 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar Envelope Sleeve and bonus accessory pouch was an interesting find that I made recently and as it turns out, it is a nice option for those ‘pick up and go’ situations with your laptop.
Prior to finding this sleeve, I had not heard much about Tomtoc products. So when MacSources was approached to take a look at their laptop sleeves, I was interested to see the quality of the products they make. The Tomtoc 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar Envelope Sleeve and accessory pouch seemed like an interesting product to start with.
The sleeve is primarily made from cotton and synthetic leather. It’s designed to house the 15-inch MacBook Pro with TouchBar, but it also has a smaller pocket that can potentially hold an iPad or other small accessories, phone, or wallet. The accessories pouch is a nice bonus to the sleeve as it can make traveling a bit less cumbersome. It’s the perfect size for your MacBook Pro power brick and cable, but if you slide that into the secondary pouch in the sleeve, don’t expect to fit a tablet inside with it. The sleeve has a slim design and it can house one or the other, but not both along with the laptop in the main compartment.
The sleeve seems to be well-constructed. The stitching is well done so I don’t foresee loose strands of string causing problems or the sleeve randomly falling apart. Being that it’s made primarily from cotton, the sleeve has a very soft feel to it. It’s durable, but since it’s not made from another material like canvas, it won’t take the same beating that other sleeves on the market might. The sleeve closure is made out of Velcro and it feels like it will stay closed even if it would slip from your hands. On that note, given that it’s a fabric based sleeve, if you happen to drop it, you might not get the same protection that you would if the sleeve were made from canvas or leather. This sleeve will, however, protect your laptop from scratches and small dings from items sliding around your bag.
I’ve found that the Tomtoc Envelope Sleeve has a snug fit for my laptop. This is something you want from a sleeve. I also really like that the sleeve is sewed around the edges. In my opinion, that not only gives the sleeve a finished look, but it also provides a bit more protection on the edges. It’s sort of giving a small bump that could potentially help protect the laptop when sitting it straight down while inside of a laptop bag that has less padding.
One thing I would like to note is that because the sleeve is untreated cotton if it gets wet it’s not going to keep you your devices from getting wet. Imagine walking out into the rain in a sweater. When you come in out of the rain, you’re drenched. Well, the same will apply to this sleeve. Some water may roll off of it, but if it were outside during extended rain storms, I think the chances are pretty strong that your devices might get wet, too.
For Tomtoc 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar Envelope Sleeve is a nice sleeve for the MacBook Pro. Fo the price, you are getting a well-made sleeve that will protect your computer during the daily commute without a second thought. It’s defiantly a modern looking sleeve and will work nicely with your new MacBook Pro but I would consider using it with a laptop case or bag to get the best out of both worlds.
