TikTok is one of the most popular and entertaining social media apps worldwide. Even plenty of businesses are using this platform to their advantage to grow their brand and boost brand awareness. What’s great is that they even leverage a free TikTok likes trial from a reliable marketing service to make their efforts a breeze and more effective.

Nevertheless, as a TikTok user, you may not be familiar with numerous slang words and phrases commonly used on this platform. This may hinder you from truly enjoying and understanding the awesome content. That’s why, in this article, we’ll share top TikTok slang words and phrases that you need to know to not feel like an alien when watching engaging content. Keep reading to learn!

TikTok Slangs and Phrases and What They Mean

1. Live rent-free in my mind

You may have seen TikTokers using this phrase in their videos and even TikTok users posting comments like “this song lives rent-free in my mind.”

This basically means that when something or someone gets stuck in your head and you just can’t get it out of your mind, whether that’s your new TikTok crush, a catchy song, or a weird video.

2. CEO of (something)

When an individual is really good at something, they will use this phrase. For instance, you may have come across comments that read, “I’m CEO of procrastination or splurging.”

3. Karen

This slang word isn’t only used on TikTok but in the real world as well. Karen refers to a middle-aged woman with a blonde bob haircut who thinks she is better than everyone else.

This word is used to describe someone with an attitude or who is very aggressive and stubborn. Some examples are – “why are you being such a Karen?” or “don’t be a Karen.”

4. Lit (or fire)

This slang word refers to when something or someone is cool or very good. It’s also used to express excitement, at the same time, for the subject it’s being used.

For instance, “this TikTok dance video is lit!” or “your outfit is fire!”.

5. Extra

When someone is being extra, it means that they are being over the top. It’s usually used for people with dramatic or excessive behavior.

Here are a few examples – “Anna is so extra! She is not less than a drama queen.” Or “I’m sorry, but you’re being extra right now.”

6. Flex

This word refers to someone bragging about something or showing off, which is undeniably amazing.

For example, “this TikToker can’t stop flexing his six-pack abs”.

7. Glow Up

Glow-up videos were really a trend back in the day on YouTube, and you can see plenty of similar videos on TikTok as well. Glow-up means when someone goes through a major (incredible) transformation, typically when they hit the gym or groom themselves better.

For instance, “you had such a glow up after you changed your hair color, started going to the gym, and eating clean.”

8. Vibe Check

If you’re getting a certain vibe from someone, you may pass (or not pass) the vibe check. It’s basically when you’re judging someone based on their vibes and getting to know them a bit more to assess if they’re a “vibe check” based on the vibes you desire from them.

Let’s say, “Sorry to break it to you, but you didn’t pass the vibe check”.

9. Slay

Similar to “killed it,” slay refers to something or someone really cool or awesome. For example, if you really liked a quick makeup look on TikTok, you will say, “you slayed it.”

10. Lowkey

When you discreetly want to do something and don’t want to be too obvious about it, you will use the word “lowkey”.

For instance, “I lowkey want to visit this place” or “I’m lowkey in love with this TikToker”.
