TidyMyMusic makes it easy to clean and organize your iTunes library.
Once a year I add holiday music to my iTunes library. This has the unfortunate side effect of creating duplicate tracks of music. Year after year, I end up adding the same tracks again and again and at the end of the holiday season, I remove the holiday tracks, but I don’t clean-up my iTunes library. Luckily, there are apps like TidyMyMusic.
TidyMyMusic by Wondershare takes that work out of reorganizing an iTunes library or just folders of music. It’s an all-in-one tool to help you fix mislabeled music, download album art, lyrics and remove duplicate songs. TidyMyMusic is designed to clean up all local music folders and your iTunes library.
Some of the top features of TidyMyMusic include:
- Fixing missing and mislabeled music information
- Finding missing album artwork easily
- Finding and downloading song lyrics
- Searching for duplicate songs
- Taking the track information
For me, the most valuable feature of TidyMyMusic is the duplicate song search. It’s no secret that duplicate files take up hard drive space and TidyMyMusic is designed to help eliminate these files quickly and easily. TidyMyMusic’s duplicate song search automatically identifies these duplicate files. Then, it’s up to the user to decide whether or not to keep the files. The process is very simple. First you, select what you want to be searched – your iTunes library or local folders. If you choose the iTunes library, you will be able to then select if you want specific playlists or the entire library to be searched. Once you have made your selection, you click the scan button with the “Search for Duplicated Songs” checked.
I’ve also experimented with identifying songs that are missing information or mislabeled. I would say about 97% of the songs were correctly identified. There are some songs that I have that are either taken from a movie or simply not recognized correctly. The nice thing about this feature is that the user remains in control. TidyMyMusic will ‘suggest’ the change, but it’s up to the user to apply the changes.
I can recommend this app to anyone who uses iTunes or collects music on their hard drive. It works really well and is very easy to understand. TidyMyMusic is available on sale in the Mac App Store for $19.99 (regular price $39.00).
