A creative way to keep track of your daily birth control pill management.

There are a lot of reasons for a woman to be on a birth control pill. The obvious reason is of course to prevent pregnancy, however, I’ve had friends who have used it to help regulate their cycles and to avoid extreme pain that can come along with the monthly period. It can be very tricky to stay on top of taking a daily medication especially when you have to take it the same time every day. There are some alternative birth control methods, but they don’t work for everyone and some women still have to take a daily pill-based medicine. There are a lot of apps out there to help with reminders of medication, but very few that are as specifically designed as The Pill.

The Pill is a birth control reminder app optimized for use with the iPhone, iPad and now the Apple Watch. It’s programmed to remind you every single day at a specific time to take your birth control medication. The reminder is a local notification alert, which is similar to an SMS. The best part is that the app doesn’t even have to be running in order for the notification to be sent to your device. Not only that, but it works in Airplane mode, too, which is great for frequent travelers.

Within the description of the app provided by the developers, they raise the question of why not just set a reminder or alarm for your daily pill? Well, quite simply put, the app is designed to automatically calculate the 21 days you should be taking your pill out of a 28-day pack of pills. It’s a great option from the app because you can visually inspect your physical pill pack against the virtual one to see if you’ve missed a pill or not.

Some of the additional features include:

  • Customizable alert sound and background color
  • Alerts received via email
  • Extra alert request option

Because it’s a reminder-based app, it’s only natural that the developer would consider making a version for the Apple Watch. With its gentle bump or vibration alerts, you will be sure to have the reminder built-in on the device that you wear all day long. The app is a bit different than what you see on the phone. When you look at The Pill throughout the day, you will only see a countdown clock. This clock reminds you when your next pill is due. [ADD IN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT’S TIME TO TAKE THE PILL].

The Pill iOS and Apple Watch Review 3It’s a very clever app and it’s wonderful in its simplicity. The Pill can be downloaded for $1.99 for your iPhone and you get the Apple Watch version for no extra charge.
