Provides users with a simple way to have a secure internet connection.

In the past couple of years, I’ve been taught the valuable lesson of why virtual private networks, or VPNs, are so important. If you are out in public and using a public WiFi hotspot, you are susceptible to a virtual attack since it’s an open network. Anyone that is on that network is a potential target and/or a potential attacker. In order to feel safe when you are using public hotspots, you can utilize a VPN. There are many options out there, but some are much easier to use than others. I was recently introduced to Surfshark, which recently won accolades at CES 2019 for the Best Newcomer VPN.

“Such acknowledgment from the top-graded privacy service reviewers is a significant milestone for us. It embodies all the hard work we have put in making Surfshark a top-level VPN provider in less than a year”, says Magnus Steinberg, Chief Technology Officer at Surfshark. “In the upcoming weeks, we are planning to make Surfshark even more user-friendly by localizing all our apps into five different languages, as well as face-lifting their design. Also, this year we are getting ready to present some real game-changing features.”

With Surfshark, you will get unrestricted content, which includes streaming and downloading content like TV series, movies, and even sporting events. Surfshark also provides ultra-fast speed for internet connection. Some VPN connections end up slowing your connection down because it is a pipeline for your internet signal, but Surfshark maintains your speeds. This VPN also provides a ‘CleanWeb’ experience. Some additional features include:

  • Kill Switch
  • MultiHop
  • 24/7 Support
  • Diamond-strong protection
  • Strict no logs policy
  • Unlimited services
  • IP Masking
  • Zero-knowledge DNS
  • Internet without borders

Getting started is as easy as setting up and account and downloading the proper app. Surfshark has apps available for all the major systems including:

  • macOS
  • Windows
  • Linux
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • iOS
  • Android
  • Firefox
  • Chrome

I chose to download it for my Mac Book Pro. The app was free from the Mac App Store and once it was installed, I simply had to enter my account credentials (user name/password) and then select which location I wanted to show for my IP address. I did have to allow certain permissions on my computer in order to Surfshark to do its thing, but after about 2 minutes total — including account creation — I was using a protected connection.

While its apps are free, Surfshark’s services are not. They offer three different subscription plans:

  • 1 Month @ $11.95/month (billed monthly)
  • 12 Months @ $5.99/month (billed every 12 months = 71.88) Save 50%
  • 24 Months @ $3.49/month (billed every 24 months = $83.76) Save 71%

You can pay with PayPal, Credit Card, Crypto Currency, Apple Pay, Alipay, or Other (Unionpay). There is 7-day free trial available, but you still have to enter a payment method in order to unlock the trial.

So far, I’ve been very happy with the service I’ve had with Surfshark. I haven’t noticed any lagging when it’s in use and it’s very easy to set-up. I was able to verify that my IP address was in fact changed when I was connected with Surfshark on my MacBook Pro through whatsmyip.org.

Surfshark is a very capable VPN provider and it’s super easy to use. For more information, visit surfshark.com/download/macos.
