Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery Review:
Bring your lost data back to life.
I have been very fortunate in my life to not have lost any important computer files. I know there are a lot of people out there who are not quite so lucky and for that purpose, there is data recovery software. Data recovery software by its nature scans certain hard disk locations and pulls data on files that have been deleted from that drive – either by choice or accident. One such software is Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery.
Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery recovers deleted and formatted files from a variety of different hard drive types including – HFS, NTFS, FAT & EXFAT based storage media. In fact, it will even recover files from Apple TimeMachine backups, too. Some of the main features of this recovery app include:
- Drive Recovery
- Photo Recovery
- CD/DVD/Blu Ray Disc Recovery
- RAW Recovery
- Lost or Deleted Partition Recovery
- Deleted File Recovery
- Formatted Drive Recovery
- Time Machine Recovery
- Encrypted Drive Recovery
- SMART status info
- Safe Preview for corrupt files
- RAM Optimization
- Compatibility with Yosemite
When you first open the app, you are asked to type in your administrator access password for your computer. I thought this was a nice touch since you are working with files that may have been deleted for security reasons. Next, you select from one of two options – Start New Scan or Resume Saved Scan. I would like that 9 times out of 10, you would select a new scan, but I love that there is an option for a saved scan.
Once you choose your type of scan and select, ‘continue,’ you are then prompted to choose the disk you wish to scan and your scanning method (Recover Data, Deleted Recovery, Raw Recovery, Create Image). One feature that is particularly nice here is that the developer provided a cheat sheet in the menu that tells you exactly what each type of scan will provide. You make your selections and click, ‘scan.’ The scanning could take a few minutes to complete. I found it to be relatively quick.
Once the scan is complete, you are presented with a list of files that you can recover back to your computer. You simply select the check box next to the file name and click ‘recover’. The file will then be saved out to a location on your computer of your choice. At first, I wasn’t sure if the process worked because the file I selected didn’t appear on my desktop. Then I discovered that the app creates a folder in your predetermined location called ‘root’ and your files are saved inside it.
I found Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery to be very easy to use and I would recommend it to any Mac users who are looking for a data recovery application. It’s UI is easy to understand and while there’s nothing flashy about it, it does fit the modern Apple apps design styles.
Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery can be downloaded the developer’s website and is available for purchase for $99. There is a trial version available.
