Speedy Pups is the fastest mobile game you’ve ever seen.

Photo Sep 22, 9 43 04 PMOne of my favorite games growing up was Sonic the Hedgehog. Why? Because of its speed. Sonic was fast. It was the first game of its kind where you sped through levels collecting rings and avoiding obstacles. Did Mario accomplish this? Sure, but at a much slower pace. I know there is a version of Sonic available for mobile devices, but it’s not the same because it wasn’t originally designed for mobile. But, Speedy Pups was.

Speedy Pups allows you play through levels at dizzying speeds – like Sonic the Hedgehog from the 1990s. The story line is fairly simple. The ‘pups’ are stolen by evil Cat Robots. As the hero, you have to teach the Cat Robots a lesson.

“I’ve always wanted to make a kick-ass platformer like Sonic The Hedgehog and Rayman,” says Shiny Yang, lead programmer at Spotcos. “Thanks to the power of Cocos2d with Apportable, that dream is now a reality. Tom Chang and I were able to create a true homage to the best 16-bit platformers—with hair-raising speeds, charm, and challenge to make even hardcore gamers sweat.”

Some of the key features of Speedy Pups include:

  • 16-bit heritage
  • Tons of levels
  • Harass nasty catniks
  • Awesome boss fights
  • Bonus (Flappy) Mode
  • Extra challenging levels

Photo Sep 22, 10 22 05 PMAfter playing Speedy Pups for a few days I can definitely recommend it. It’s a lot of fun and the concept is entertaining. The hero dog you start with – Cate the Corgi – is very cute and I am looking forward to unlocking the other characters as well. There are two ways to play. You can do a free run or do a challenge. I have to admit that the challenge is more difficult than I thought it would be. I actually have yet to make it farther than the first jump. I have really enjoyed the free run level and played it quite a bit.

Speedy Pups is free to download, but has in-app purchases that enhance the game play. The nice thing is that the developer balanced the game so that skilled players don’t have to spend money in order to progress.
