Comfort can't outweigh security
The SODI Head Strap has a sleek, lightweight design with quality materials and comfort features. However, the lack of a secure locking mechanism on the side rails is a significant design flaw, especially for an expensive device like the Vision Pro. Installation is quick and simple, and the one-button adjustment for the back strap makes it easy to put on and take off. The dial system for tightening the straps also adds convenience. The initial stiffness of the slide rail, though, slightly affects the usability. At $44.97 (current price), the SODI Head Strap is relatively affordable compared to many other accessories for high-end devices like the Vision Pro. However, given the security concerns, it may not offer the best value for its price.

This head strap is a problematic accessory for the Vision Pro
When the Apple Vision Pro was announced in June 2023 as a part of WWDC, I was cautiously optimistic about it. I love the concept of virtual reality but I’ve never found a strong use case for it in my daily life. What Apple did was to take the concept of virtual reality and turn it into a real computing device that I could use. So, I picked one up when it was released in February.
It’s a remarkable device, but I found myself having issues with the way it fit. I made a couple of trips to Apple Stores to get new head straps because at launch, there were no third-party options. Fortunately, it didn’t take too long for that to change and for products like the SODI Head Strap for Apple Vision Pro to become available.

User Experience
The SODI Head Strap for Apple Vision Pro comes in a nondescript box. It’s all white with a wireframe illustration of the product on the top of the box. The brand “SODI” is included a few places on the box. The back of the box includes some details like the manufacturer, brand owner, and importer. It is a fairly generic box and with the exception of the “SODI” name on it, this could have been made by anyone. When you open the box, you’ll find the head strap wrapped in plastic along with the user manual and the rear sponge pad.

As far as setup goes, there isn’t a whole lot to speak of. The head strap is all in one piece. The back cushion snaps into place quickly and easily. It’s optional and if it’s not comfortable for you, you don’t have to use it. The slide rail is designed to slide onto the Vision Pro’s side pieces. While this is achieved easily enough (it was a little stiff when I first got it), this issue with this design is that there is nothing on the side rail to lock it into place on the Vision Pro.
Even though one side of the Vision Pro would be blocked by the charger connection, the other side risks sliding right off. To me, this is a critical design flaw. When you have a $3,500 computer that you wear on your head, you want the accessories that hold it on to be secure and this SODI Head Strap is anything but that because of this specific omission. I found that by removing the Vision Pro’s Light Seal, the head strap is more secure, but Vision Pro can still slide off of it.

Now, once the head strap is attached to the Vision Pro, you can place the entire device on your head and make adjustments with the back and top straps. I really love the one-button adjustment option for the for the back. It makes it very easy to get on and off. That was one of my complaints of the Apple straps — there was no quick, easy way to remove them. I also really like that you can tighten both the back and top straps with a dial.

The cushions are plush and comfortable to wear. While the PU covering on the cushions is breathable, it’s not that breathable. I found myself sweating quite a bit because of that material.
Overall, this head strap is made with quality materials and has a good option for the proper ‘fit’ for the most people. However, I can’t in good conscience recommend it since there is a chance the Vision Pro might not be held on securely. It was comfortable to wear but I didn’t use it for very long with the SODI Head Strap because I was concerned about the security of the device.

Conclusion
In conclusion, while the SODI Head Strap for Apple Vision Pro offers a more comfortable and adjustable alternative to the OEM straps, it falls short in a crucial area: security. The lack of a proper locking mechanism on the side rails leaves the Vision Pro at risk of sliding off, which is a serious concern for a device as expensive and delicate as this. Despite its good fit, easy adjustments, and comfortable cushions, the potential for the headset to detach makes it hard to recommend, especially for long-term or intensive use. Comfort can’t outweigh security when it comes to high-end tech.
