Slide-out iPhone 6 Bluetooth Keyboard Review:
A unique accessory for the iPhone 6.
Several years ago, at the dawn of the smartphone revolution, slide-out keyboards were a novel feature. It was before the iPhone made touchscreen popular and everyone had a slider keyboard. I remember being jealous of my friends who had ‘evolved’ cell phones with full QWERTY keyboards. They were texting fiends. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of owning one of those unique-style phones. But, thanks to the Slide-out Bluetooth Keyboard from Brando, I now know what it is like to use one.
Brando, a provider of unique accessories for technology devices, has in its inventory an Ultra-thin Slide-out Bluetooth Keyboard for the iPhone 6. So, I thought I’d give it a try. First off, I wanted say what a monumental jump it is to go from a touchscreen keyboard to a tactile keyboard again. It’s a very strange feeling. After acclimating myself to the small tiles of the mobile QWERTY keyboard, I found it to be quite enjoyable.
With it being a Bluetooth connected keyboard and not a hard-wired one, I was a little skeptical that the connection would stick. I’m happy to say that I was proven wrong in my skepticism. The keyboard stayed connected and only switched back to the internal touch keyboard when it sat idle for a period of time.
Even though the keyboard was as thin as it could possibly be for a slide-out keyboard, it nearly doubled the thickness of the iPhone 6. I was willing to overlook this bump in the road because the thickness of the case meant I had a full, tactile keyboard. Sometimes, you have to sacrifice the design for function. I never felt as though my phone was in danger of damage while it resided in the keyboard case, but there wasn’t much of a ‘lip’ on the top.
I was also impressed with the battery life of the keyboard. After two days of active use, I still did not have to charge it. The designer of the case was very smart about it and included an on/off switch. I was very cognizant of turning the keyboard off before I closed the case. This probably helped save the battery life.
Another feature that was a very welcome surprise was the backlit keyboard. This came in very handy in situations where there was very little light. I like to read news and social media feeds before bed each night and found the backlit keys very helpful.
All in all, the Ultra-thin Slide-out Bluetooth Keyboard from Brando is a superb accessory for your iPhone. If you are looking for a tactile keyboard, I would advise you to check out this one from Brando. It retails for $39 and is worth the cost.
