Unique sleeve provides protection with no hassles.
One of my favorite things about getting new technology is finding new accessories to go with the device. When I picked up the new 10.5″ iPad Pro, Smart Keyboard, and Apple Pencil, I knew that I wanted a safe, secure way to carry the bundle that wasn’t a bag. So, my search for a sleeve carrying case began. I happened to find the Acme Made Skinny Sleeve and knew that it was what I had been looking for.
The Skinny Sleeve is made out of neoprene, which is durable and flexible at the same time. Acme Made designed this sleeve with a stretch-stitch seam to allow for ultra-thin, but padded protection for devices. Although it’s incredibly slim, the sleeve also features a sewn-in protective layer on both the front and back of the sleeve. One of the best features of the Skinny Sleeve is that it’s 100% zipperless. It was designed this way so that you wouldn’t chance scratching your laptop or tablet when you take it out or drop it into the sleeve.
Acme Made created the Skinny Sleeves to work with a wide variety of products. There are various sizes of the sleeve including XL, L, M, S, XS, XXS, and 9.7″. Each size is associated with different sized devices. For example, the XL will accommodate most 15-inch laptops while the XXS will allow for 11-12″ laptops like the Apple MacBook 12-inch. I grabbed up the M size because it was rated for the Apple iPad Pro 12″ and the Microsoft Surface Pro. Even though those are quite a bit larger than the 10.5″ iPad Pro, I wanted to make sure the Smart Keyboard could fit as well as the tablet. I was right. There is a little bit of a gap, but that’s to be expected given that this is actually made for larger devices. Acme Made does provide a size chart on their website, but the 10.5″ isn’t listed yet.
The Acme Made Skinny Sleeve is wonderfully made. It’s slick on the outside with very nice padding on the inside. It opens wide enough to slide the iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard inside the sleeve without any problems. There is also a slot on the side hidden under the red strap that holds your stylus or Apple Pencil. This feature was one of the main reasons the Skinny Sleeve caught my eye. Most cases don’t have a slot for the Apple Pencil or any stylus for that matter. And, the ones that do, don’t have space inside them to store the keyboard along with the tablet. So, for me, it’s been a trade-off for what I want to carry with me the most. I could always go with a full-size laptop bag, but that would completely take away from packing light with a tablet.
Even though there is no zipper, I’ve felt that my items are secure inside the sleeve. The strap allows for you to keep your drawing utensil of choice in place without the worry of it falling out. The one problem I have is the two inches of extra space I have once I slide my iPad inside the sleeve. This is not the fault of the sleeve designers as it was made for a bigger device and I got it for something other than what it was made for.
This padded case is so nice I’m going to keep an eye out for this company to see if they put out a new size to accommodate the new iPad Pro size. I would buy it again.
