Immersive audiophile sound that provides total immersion.
One of my favorite tech products to review is headphones. There are many different styles to choose from but, in my opinion, there haven’t been any ‘real’ innovations in how they function for a very long time. I was recently introduced to the SHIVR 3D Noise Cancelling Headphones, which provide a truly unique listening experience.
The SHIVR 3D Noise Cancelling Headphones provide an immersive audio experience for users. They provide hybrid active noise cancellation and are powered by a custom gyroscope. The headphones feature a groundbreaking 3D audio algorithm and aptX high fidelity sound. SHIVR 3D headphones give the user a spatially rich, 3D audio, that will increase their sense of auditory space.

HOW SHIVR’S ALGORITHM ACHIEVES A 3D AUDIO EXPERIENCE (from SHIVR’s Kickstarter page)
“Traditional two-channel audio only delivers sound from the left and right side, but in real life we can identify sounds from various directions, distances and the surrounding environment. Real sounds mix as they bounce off walls, floors, and ceilings, and gives us a feel of room size and the materials within it. We use a gyroscope technology-based 3D audio algorithm to achieve 3D spatial sound.”
One of the first things I noticed was how comfortable the headphones are. They seem a little large at first, but once you have them on you realize how soft and luxurious they are. The headphones were easy to adjust and several members of my family commented how comfortable they are. I was able to wear the headphones for several hours at a time without headaches becoming an issue or my ears overheating. Since these are over-the-ear headphones, the fact that my ears didn’t overheat was a big deal for me.
Everything — and I mean EVERYTHING — sounded amazing with these headphones. My step-daughter sort of adopted these headphones after I finished with my initial testing and even she said that music was incredible. She actually suffers with anxiety in large crowds and the noise-cancelling feature helped her to cope with a large group that we were around when we were taking a family trip recently. She was able to drown out about 90% of the ambient noise around her when she started feeling overwhelmed with the amount of people we were around. While this isn’t a publicized feature of these headphones, they could easily be used for individuals who have sensory-overload disabilities.
I think my favorite bit of testing was done in conjunction with the Oculus Quest, a VR gaming device. The Oculus Quest has built-in speakers, but you still end up hearing all the noise around you when you play unless you put on headphones. When I received the SHIVR 3D headphones I thought they would be the PERFECT companion for the Oculus Quest for total immersion. And I was right! You really get a feel for everything around you and you completely forget that your body is in the ‘real’ world. The 3D sound experience really takes VR gaming to a new level and the noise-cancelling blocks out most of the ambient noise in the room. It was a truly impressive experience.
The SHIVR 3D headphones completed a Kickstarter campaign recently and early backers are currently (as of this article being published) being sent their rewards. Standard customers can pre-order the headphones through SHIVR.co for $169. Delivery of pre-orders is set to begin in August 2019. If you are looking for a really great set of headphones that can immerse you into the world of VR, improve the quality of the audio you are already listening to, and block out unwanted elements of sound, check out the SHIVR 3D headphones.
