Elevate your iPad to a new level with this elegant stand.

I use my iPad Pro every day. At night, I have a floor stand that holds my iPad so that I can watch videos or read the news while I’m in bed. But during the day, it lays on top of my desk. I will usually place it there so that it can charge throughout the day and be ready for me to use at a moment’s notice. That said, I do like to have easier access to it while I’m at my computer so that I can use it for a second screen or just to keep track of social media and other news while I’m editing photos. That’s what the Aluminum Desktop Stand for iPad from Satechi is designed for.

The Aluminum Desktop Stand for iPad is, as its name would suggest, made from aluminum and other premium materials. It’s equipped with an adjustable mount to hold your tablet and stores away easily with its foldable design. The stand holds the iPad at the ideal height for video chats as well as sketching or editing photos in Lightroom mobile. Satechi took great care in the design of this stand in that padding is affixed to the metal frame in all the right places (the back of the mount and the lip rest of the mount) to protect the iPad from damage. The stand has two hinge points – one at the base and one at the mount. The hinge is flexible up to 180º and the base hinge will fold down to 135º so that the entire stand can fold flat. The stand comes in one color – space gray – to match the Apple ecosystem of mobile devices.

Satechi always does a really nice job with their packaging. Their boxes have a clean look to them and there is always a nice image of the product it houses on the front. The back usually provides additional photos and some details of the product. The Aluminum Desktop Stand follows this tradition and has a superb retail package. When you open it up, you will find the stand folded up inside the interior box. Even though the operation of the stand is pretty self-explanatory, Satechi still includes a small user manual that includes instructions and safety information. As a consumer, I appreciate this because there are a lot of products I’ve used that comes with no instructions and are not self-explanatory. I would rather have some guidance than none at all.

The stand has a very nice, heavy base. Since I have a 12-inch iPad, this was an important feature to me because I didn’t want to change the stand might fall over while holding the tablet. The specs of the stand state that it weighs just over a pound and I think most of that weight is in the base. The base also features the brand name with Satechi’s logo printed on the top so that it’s well represented. Sometimes I don’t like to have the branding of a product in plain view, but Satechi does it in such a subtle way that I don’t mind it.

The hinges have a really great range of motion, but out of the box, they are a bit tight. Because I don’t want to see the iPad mount droop while I’m using the stand, the tightness isn’t really a problem in my mind. I’m hoping they will loosen a little bit with use, but I don’t want to see them become a safety issue for my tablet. I love that Satechi included the padding on the mount. I’ve seen way too many stands that have zero padding that it was refreshing to see a company care about the safety of its customers’ products. One other great feature of this stand is the inclusion of a charging slot for cables. On the bottom of the mount, there is a slot cut out for a cable to slide through so if you are like me and need to provide your iPad with a charge while you use it, you can. The cutout in the back of the stand actually provides an easy cable routing channel that will help with minimizing cable clutter on your desktop.

The Satechi Aluminum Desktop Stand for iPad is a great addition to my desktop. Not only does it include cable management into its design, but the iPad is going to be well protected from its perch. Satechi creates premium products for its customers and as such the price is comparable to other premium products in its category. Are there more affordable stands? Yes, but they won’t be built as well and there will be less care taken in the design for the end-user. If you are looking for a stand, I would give this one a try.
