By day, I work for a nonprofit organization where customer/client relationships are key. Any business owner or salesperson would agree that keeping accurate, up-to-date notes on clients is essential to success. There are hundreds of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software tools available, but there are few that are affordable and even fewer that have an easy-to-use user interfaces.

For several days, I have been researching CRMs that are available for iPad. Many of the options I found connect back to a subscription service. These resources would be helpful for a large company with many employees, but they just aren’t cost effective for businesses with less than five employees, which is what I was looking for. That’s when I stumbled across Organizer Simple CRM.

Organizer CRM is designed by iSeeds Software, a company based out of France. The app was originally written completely in French, which is still present in some places. It is currently on version 1.2.1 and was last updated on November 9, 2011. Version 1.1 is when the English localization was implemented and, as I mentioned, it is a work in progress. I look for that to improve with additional version updates.

Upon opening the app, users are met with a friendly, clean interface. It give users the option of viewing contacts in several different ways – all, clients only, prospects only, personal contacts only and contacts by company. Under each contact, a user can assign tasks, which can then be copied to iPad’s calendar. One of the functions, I see as the most beneficial is the export function. Contacts can be exported as a .csv file or as vCards. Reports can be created and sent by email to meeting attendees. It is easy to mark tasks as completed and the integration with iPad’s calendar is flawless.

As much as I enjoy this app, there are a few bugs that still need to be worked out.

#1 – There is no place for a secondary email address, phone number or address. It would be great if, like in Apple Address Book, users could tap a plus sign and be able to add additional contact information.

#2 – Better English localization. There are a few places where the French word still appears where an English word should be.

#3 – The app has some problems with importing addresses. Sometimes the user has to re-enter the street address in order for it to be saved.

#4 – When entering a new business, the text is invisible until it is saved.

I really hope to see advances in this app in the future. Even with the small bugs we discovered while testing, this app is well worth the one-time price of $4.99 from Apple. Some of the other subscription services are hundreds of dollars per year in addition to the cost of the app(s).

I hope that iSeeds is working on an iPhone version that could possibly sync with the iPad version. The subscription services I researched all synced through a ‘cloud’, but perhaps this service could utilized Dropbox or even Evernote to sync.

One additional suggestion I had was to include the option of a picture in the Notes section for the clients so that either a logo or a business card could be included.

Overall, this app is incredibly impressive. It does the job of a lot of bigger, more confusing CRMs, while maintaining simplicity and cleanliness in the design.
