The olloclip Macro lens makes tiny objects appear larger than life.
I love taking pictures with my iPhone. It’s great being able to capture special events and moments without having to dig out a separate camera. My iPhone is always with me and therefore, the best option for a camera. I really love the options of additional specialized lenses that olloclip offers to users as a way to enhance photographs taken with the iPhone.
The first time I saw the Macro lens from olloclip, I honestly thought, “Why is this something that is needed?” I’ve never quite understood what a Macro lens does – until I tested out the olloclip Macro 3-in-1 lens for iPhone 6/6Plus. Macro Photography is a special subset of photography that produces pictures of small items in larger than life size. In terms of the olloclip, the lens offers several types of magnification. The “3-in-1” refers to the three amounts of magnifications available with the lens – 7x, 14x and 21x.
The olloclip Macro lens delivers crisp, clean extreme close-up shots. You only have to choose what level of magnification you want to use and start taking pictures. Like all olloclips, the Macro for the iPhone 6/6Plus is pocket sized for your convenience and meant to go anywhere that your iPhone does. The design is a remarkable piece of innovation as it simply clips over your iPhone’s iSight camera lens. There are no special attachments that are needed to connect the two. In just a few seconds, you’re ready to go. This is ideal for being on-the-go like so many of us are.
Some of the features of olloclip Macro include:
- Three quick-change lenses in 7x, 14x and 21x magnifications get you closer than ever using a mobile device
- InstaFocus™ hoods (included) collect and diffuse light and facilitate focusing
- Clips on and off iPhone in seconds with no extra parts needed
- Share it and wear it with 3 colorful pendants
- Works with all your favorite photo and video apps
Like the other olloclip lenses for iPhone 6/6Plus, three colorful, wearable pendants are included in the box with the Macro lens. These not only make the Macro lens more portable that ever, but they also give added protection to the lens.
As I mentioned, before I got to test out the olloclip Macro lens, I didn’t really under stand macro photography. I started taking test shots of fabric on a quilt my grandmother made. I quickly discovered that in order to get good photographs, I had to get very close to the subject. When you do, the object becomes very clear and you can see extreme detail. For example, the fabric in the quilt showed individuals threads in the sqaures on the quilt. I was amazed at the amount detail I could see. I think took a picture of a bottle of water that had some minuscule bubbles in it. The photo froze the bubbles in time and showed spectacular imagery that only the macro lens could have captured.
One other thing to note is that the olloclip lens comes with adapters that ensure the lens fits securely on both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. There is a sticker on the box that indicates the inclusion of this adapter. The lens comes pre-installed with the adapter for the iPhone 6. iPhone 6 Plus users would have to swap out the adapters. If someone skipped over this step, they wouldn’t be getting the best fit on their phone and therefore, not getting the best photos.
I continue to be impressed with olloclip’s lenses and really love the new world that the macro lens opens up for me as a photographer. I can highly recommend it for anyone who is looking to expand their photography experience. The olloclip Macro 3-in-1 Lens for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus retails for $69.99.
