A Low-Profile Keyboard Built for Serious Gaming

90% EXCELLENT

The Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz successfully combines the comfort of a low-profile keyboard with the performance features competitive gamers are looking for. Its responsive optical switches, adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger, 8000 Hz polling, and extensive customization options make it an excellent choice for fast-paced gaming, while the comfortable layout and relatively quiet sound profile make it just as enjoyable for everyday use. The wired-only design and weaker macOS support are disappointing, especially at this price, but neither issue takes away from what is otherwise an excellent low-profile gaming keyboard.

The Huntsman finally gets a low-profile design, combining Razer’s analog optical switches, 8000 Hz polling, Rapid Trigger, and competitive gaming features with a slimmer, more comfortable form factor.

In the past few years, I’ve been trying to up my PC gaming experience and so I’ve been exploring different styles of keyboards. Razer is an obvious choice and the Huntsman family of keyboards provides solid options. My issue is that I’m accustomed to low-profile keyboard designs and it’s been difficult for me to fully embrace the higher-profile ones. Thankfully, Razer has just released the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL, which makes my setup feel much more comfortable.

What I wanted to find out with the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz was whether Razer could combine the benefits I like about low-profile keyboards with the performance features that make the Huntsman V3 Pro lineup so appealing to gamers. With features like adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger, Snap Tap, and 8000 Hz polling, this keyboard has a lot going on beneath its relatively slim design. I’ve spent time using it for both everyday work and gaming to see how all of those features translate to real-world use.

About the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz

The Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz brings Razer’s performance-focused Huntsman lineup into a low-profile form factor for the first time. While Razer has previously offered low-profile keyboards through its BlackWidow and DeathStalker families, the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile takes a different approach by combining a slimmer design with Razer’s new Low-profile Analog Optical Switches and the company’s latest competitive gaming technologies.

Designed for players who prioritize speed and precision, the keyboard features adjustable actuation from 0.1 mm to 2.8 mm, allowing users to determine exactly how far a key needs to travel before registering. The switches also support Rapid Trigger Mode, which allows keys to reset based on their movement rather than relying on a traditional fixed reset point. Razer says the switches are individually calibrated, have a 40g actuation force, and are rated for up to 100 million keystrokes.

The keyboard also features True 8000 Hz HyperPolling, which Razer claims delivers an average latency of just 0.39 ms. Along with Rapid Trigger, gamers get access to Razer Snap Tap for faster directional changes, Snap Flex for combining two inputs into a single press, Dynamic Keystroke for assigning multiple actions to a single key, and Dual-Keypress Priority for more predictable behavior when conflicting keys are pressed.

Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL Keyboard

Beyond its performance features, the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz uses a tenkeyless layout, a 5052 aluminum alloy top case, textured doubleshot PBT keycaps, per-key Razer Chroma RGB lighting, and internal foam for sound dampening. A multifunction digital dial and dedicated control buttons provide access to media controls and keyboard adjustments, while the onboard LED array makes it possible to adjust actuation and Rapid Trigger settings without opening software.

At $229.99, the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz sits at the high end of Razer’s gaming keyboard lineup. However, it is not simply a thinner version of an existing Huntsman. It combines the shorter travel and lower profile of a modern low-profile keyboard with the adjustable, analog-focused features that have made the Huntsman V3 Pro series popular with competitive gamers.

User Experience

Everyday Use

The low-profile design of the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz is incredibly comfortable, especially when I’m using it for several hours at a time. I’m already pretty accustomed to low-profile keyboards since one of my primary keyboards is the Apple Magic Keyboard. While I still love the feel and feedback of a traditional mechanical keyboard, I’ve found that I generally prefer the shorter profile and feel of low-profile keys. Razer’s implementation works really well for me, and I’m especially happy with the overall layout. Even though this is a compact tenkeyless keyboard, the keys are spaced out nicely, and I really appreciate that the navigation keys and arrow keys have their own dedicated areas instead of being awkwardly squeezed into the layout.

The keyboard’s 19.5 mm front height also makes a noticeable difference for me. Keeping the keyboard closer to my desk feels more natural, and I find the lower profile to be more functional for the way I use a keyboard every day. The shorter key travel adds to that feeling as well. The keys feel quick and effortless to press without feeling too shallow or insubstantial.

Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL Keyboard

For everyday tasks like typing, browsing the web, and working through email, I’ve really enjoyed using the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz. I’ve found typing to be comfortable even during longer sessions, and the switches have a smooth, responsive feel that makes the keyboard enjoyable to use. The 40 g actuation force also keeps the keys from feeling too heavy, which works especially well with the shorter travel.

I also put the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz through a couple of typing tests on Monkeytype to see how it performed beyond my general impressions. On my first test, I reached 80 words per minute, and on the second, I hit 78 WPM with 97% accuracy. While two tests aren’t enough to establish a definitive typing speed, the results were consistent with what I experienced during everyday use. If anything, the results reinforced my feeling that this is just as capable for productivity and longer typing sessions as it is for gaming.

I also really like the sound profile. For a gaming keyboard, the Huntsman Low-Profile is relatively quiet. I could easily see myself using it in an office or another shared space without feeling like I’m disturbing everyone around me. At the same time, it still has that satisfying sound I want from a gaming keyboard. It manages to strike a nice balance between being quiet enough for shared spaces while still giving me some audible feedback when I’m typing or gaming.

I haven’t experienced any accidental keypresses during my testing so far. That’s something I was curious about going into this review, so I’ve been happy to see that I can take advantage of the responsive switches without the keyboard feeling overly sensitive.

Gaming Performance

The Huntsman Low-Profile has been extremely responsive during gaming. I tested it with Call of Duty, The Finals, and Gears of War, and the switches responded quickly to every movement and input. I do think the shorter 2.8 mm total key travel makes a difference, particularly when I’m playing fast-paced games where quick movement and repeated keypresses are important. The reduced travel gives the keyboard a very quick feel, which fits nicely with how I like to play.

My familiarity with low-profile keyboards also seems to have helped here. Since I’m already more comfortable with the feel and shorter travel of a low-profile keyboard, I felt more comfortable and confident in these games than I typically do with a higher-profile keyboard. Movement felt natural right away, and I didn’t have to spend much time adjusting to the keyboard before I could focus on the game.

I also noticed a meaningful difference when using the keyboard’s 8KHz polling rate and Rapid Trigger features. These aren’t features that I can easily quantify during normal gameplay, but I could definitely feel how responsive the keyboard was overall. Rapid Trigger was particularly useful for quick and repeated inputs, while the 8KHz polling rate added to that feeling of the keyboard responding almost instantly to what I was doing. Combined with the low-profile switches, the result is a keyboard that I’ve really enjoyed using for fast-paced games.

Customization and Controls

The Huntsman Low-Profile gives me plenty of options when it comes to customization. I can adjust settings such as actuation and Rapid Trigger directly from the keyboard without having to open the software, which is really convenient when I want to make a quick change. The LED indicator system works with the onboard controls to give me visual feedback, although it does take a little time to get familiar with what the different indicators and adjustments mean.

I also really like the multifunction digital dial. I can use it for things like adjusting the volume and controlling media, while the dedicated buttons make it easy to switch between functions. Having those controls right on the keyboard is something I appreciate, especially when I’m working or gaming and don’t want to stop what I’m doing to dig through software or use keyboard shortcuts.

Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL Keyboard

The six onboard profiles are another nice addition. I can store different configurations for different games or applications, and having those profiles saved directly to the keyboard means I can take my settings with me if I move the keyboard to another computer. I primarily used Razer Synapse to customize the keyboard during my testing, but I like knowing that I have onboard options when I need them.

For my testing, I primarily used the Razer Synapse desktop application on Windows to customize the keyboard. I also tested Razer Synapse Web, which is currently in beta. The web version initially recognized the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz, but it eventually showed the keyboard as disconnected. Since I had the keyboard before its official launch, this could simply be an early compatibility issue rather than a problem with the keyboard itself. Because of that, I relied on the desktop version of Synapse for most of my customization during testing.

Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL Keyboard

Conclusion

The Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz has been an excellent fit for me. As someone who already prefers low-profile keyboards, I immediately felt more comfortable using it than I typically do with a higher-profile mechanical keyboard. I appreciate that Razer hasn’t sacrificed everyday usability in pursuit of gaming performance. I found the keyboard comfortable for long typing sessions, the layout works well for my needs, and the relatively quiet sound profile makes it suitable for shared environments.

There are two areas where I would like to see Razer improve the Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL 8KHz. First, it is only available as a wired keyboard. At $229.99, I would like to see a wireless option for people who want a cleaner desk setup or the flexibility to move between devices without a cable. Second, macOS support is not as strong as I would expect. While this is primarily a gaming keyboard, many people use Macs for work and Windows PCs for gaming, and I think better macOS support would make the keyboard considerably more versatile.

Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Low-Profile TKL Keyboard

For someone who specifically wants a low-profile gaming keyboard with serious competitive features, I think the Huntsman Low-Profile delivers a lot of value. For me, the combination of comfort, speed, customization, and low-profile design makes this one of the easiest gaming keyboards I’ve used to recommend, particularly to other gamers who prefer a lower-profile typing experience.
