The Razer BlackWidow V4 is Razer’s 4th generation gaming mechanical keyboard. This keyboard is fully customizable using the Razer Synapse program. What makes this version extra special is the collaboration with Pokémon. This BlackWidow features the Kanto starters Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu. It’s part of Razer’s limited-edition collab set with Pokémon, which includes the BlackWidow V4 keyboard, Cobra mouse, Kraken V4 X headset, and the Gigantus V4 mouse pad. The entire set showcases Pokémon Kanto starter artwork.
Razer’s BlackWidow keyboard features Razer Green Mechanical Switches, which are very clicky. The keyboard is wired via a USB-A cord and includes 6 programmable switches that can be customized to game profiles in the Razer app. It also has a nice metal media roller switch. I have a general love for Razer products and always have they’ve been a staple in the gaming industry and a very well-known name. I’m an even bigger Pokémon fan so, I’m excited to take a look at their newest collaboration.

Unboxing and Setup
For the Pokémon collab, Razer made a special box worthy of such a big collaboration. The unboxing experience is similar to most Razer products stunning visuals all over the packaging showcasing the keyboard with all the Pokémon starters. Opening the box, you’re greeted with the keyboard itself wrapped in a plastic bag. After removing it, you’ll find a small quick start guide from Razer about the product.
After plugging the keyboard in, I used Razer’s built-in cable tie for cable management. My HP Windows 11 PC immediately recognized the keyboard and prompted me to download the Razer software, which only took about 3 minutes. After downloading, it offers the option to create a Razer account to continue setting up the software. I like that you can skip this and continue as a guest, which is nice for privacy if you don’t want to share your personal data.

Once in the software, I set my lighting to a standard preset that slowly cycles through all the colors with a fading effect. There are more advanced options through Razer’s “Chroma” app, which lets you fully customize the colors exactly how you want. For my use, I stuck with the preset lighting options.
Within the software, you can map the 6 customizable macro keys and create specific game profiles.
General Usage
Overall, for gaming and light work, the BlackWidow shines. I love the bright RGB lighting Razer is known for the vibrant colors really pop. Gaming mode turns this keyboard into a full-fledged gaming machine.
Recently, I’ve been playing a lot of Fortnite on my PC. Since I usually play with a controller, switching to mouse and keyboard has been a learning curve. However, this keyboard made that transition much easier. Setting up gaming profiles and enabling gaming mode helped me adapt quickly, making it my primary controller for Fortnite.

One of my favorite features is the clicky, tactile keys. Some users might find this keyboard too loud, but I love it. For work, I do a lot of typing especially when writing reviews and I prefer a full-size keyboard, so this one checks that box.
Typing took a little getting used to because of the dedicated macro row slightly shifting the main keys’ position. Still, after the initial learning curve, I found I excelled at both typing and gaming on this keyboard.
Pricing
The Razer BlackWidow V4 X Pokémon collab keyboard is currently available on Razer’s website for $169.99. Since this is a limited-edition collab, you can still buy a plain Razer BlackWidow V4 X anytime for $129.99.

Conclusion
For the price, the Razer BlackWidow V4 X Pokémon Edition offers excellent value. You’re getting a top-tier mechanical keyboard that delivers the quality and performance Razer is known for, along with unique, limited-edition Pokémon-themed artwork that really stands out. The tactile, clicky Razer Green switches feel great whether you’re gaming or typing, and the fully customizable lighting and programmable keys add a level of personalization that gamers and power users will appreciate.

That said, I would have liked to see a wrist rest included in the box. For long gaming or typing sessions, a wrist rest can make a noticeable difference in comfort and reduce fatigue. Its absence is a bit surprising, especially considering this is a premium product with a special collaboration. Despite that, the overall package is solid. The keyboard’s build quality, features, and aesthetics make it a worthy addition to any setup.

The Pokémon collaboration adds a nostalgic and fun touch that any die-hard fan will love, making it not just a tool for gaming but also a collector’s item. If you’re a fan of mechanical keyboards or Pokémon or both this keyboard is definitely worth considering. Whether you’re upgrading your current setup or looking for a unique gift, the Razer BlackWidow V4 X Pokémon Edition strikes a nice balance between performance, style, and value.
