Features set this cooling pad above the rest.
I have an aluminum unibody MacBook Pro. It is somewhat notorious for heating up so I like to keep a laptop cooling pad handy. I’ve used a lot of different types of cooling pads before. I love the ones that sort of double as lap desks and find them to not only be useful at cooling off my laptop, but, depending on the fan speed, sometimes it cools me off, too. Today, I am excited to be reviewing the Ptatoms Laptop Cooling Pad. It’s designed for 15-17″ gaming laptops, but I must say that any laptop user – especially MacBook Pro users – could benefit from this wonderful device.
There are several unique features about this cooling pad. First, it has a completely detached USB cable. Most cooling pads I’ve used have an attached cable that is typically stored underneath it in a hidden compartment. While I have always liked that you can’t lose the cable that powers the cooling pad, I do like this detached cable method. The cable itself is a wrapped/covered cable that has proven to be more durable than standard cables. I do wish that there was an easy way to store the cable on the cooling pad until you needed it. The product designers thought to add in an extra USB port so that you can plug your mouse or other peripheral directly into it while your laptop is powering the pad.
There are four 120mm ultra-quiet fans that spin at approximately 1200 RPM. They are fast and you can actually control their speed by the rotating power switches on the back of the pad. What’s really cool about this is that there are two switches – one for the front two fans and one for the back two. That means you could have only two running at a time if you want. I found this to be a great use to me. The LED lights are blue and light up when you switch on the fans.
One of the most noticeable unique features of the Ptatoms Laptop Cooling Pad is the design. It’s very lightweight and when you look at the shape, it resembles a butterfly. When I use a cooling pad, nine times out of ten, it’s when I’m sitting on my couch working at night. I’ve found that sometimes it’s awkward to be comfortable with a standard rectangular cooling pad. But, this oddly shaped pad is ideal for laps. The shape fits much better than the rectangular ones do and I was able to get more work done using it because I didn’t have to keep shifting around so much.
I have been very impressed with the Ptatoms Laptop Cooling Pad and would recommend it to anyone shopping for one. It’s affordable and has many more features than its competitors.
