Printer Pro allows you to print wirelessly from your iOS device through any wireless or USB printer.
One of the biggest struggles I have with going completely ‘mobile’ is being able to print every type of file from either my iPhone or iPad. Developer, Readdle, has solved this problem with Printer Pro.
Printer Pro is a handy utility app that allows users to print wirelessly from their iOS devices. Before Printer Pro, iOS devices could really only print from certain apps and sometimes not at all. Printer Pro lets you print directly from the apps on your device to any Wi-Fi or USB printer. Once it’s installed, Printer Pro appears as an option in the “Open in…” list on your device. Mail, Dropbox, and Photos are all compatible with Printer Pro.
When you first get started you have to select the printer you will be using first. Then, the app instructs you to print a test page. This tells Printer Pro whether or not your printer will work wirelessly with your device and the app. Unfortunately, our office printer, a Brother MFC-9970CDW. It is a wireless network printer and our MacBook Pros have no trouble communicating with it. The iPhone, however, was a different story. The Brother printer did show up in the elegible printer list, but Printer Pro couldn’t connect to it properly. The printer indicator light even flashed, but nothing printed out. Readdle developers thought this problem through and wanted as many users as possible to be able to use Printer Pro. So, they created a desktop companion app.
This companion app is sort of a go-between for the iOS device and the printer. It bridges the communication gap between the two. Since I installed the companion app, I have had no problem printing. I know that some skeptics may think this app isn’t worth it if you have to download a companion app for the desktop. I feel that Printer Pro is still a valuable asset because it allows you to print from nearly every app on your iOS device without having to transfer files elsewhere.
Printer Pro has been very easy to use. It gives detailed instructions about how to use the app from within the apps. Sometimes the option for printing includes copying the information to the clipboard and then printing from the clipboard within Printer Pro. In addition to the clipboard Printer Pro can also be used with Documents, Contacts, Photos, Email, Web Pages, Dropbox and Pages.
Printer Pro also gives users full customization options like paper size, whether or not to fit the app to the page or fill the page, and how many copies to print. Plus, you can choose how many copies to print on the page and that shows up in the print preview window. Another nice options that Readdle plugged into the app was the ability to select what pages you want to print.
After over 2 million downloads, Printer Pro is still going strong. It’s well supported and very easy to use. For more information, visit readdle.com/products/printerpro. Printer Pro retails for $6.99 and has a free version for trial purposes.
