Precious Disk allows you to find where your biggest files are being stored.
Have you ever found yourself lacking disk space? I can say that I definitely have. Until very recently, I had filled my MacBook Pro storage to the brim. This was almost 750GB of storage space. My problem is that I tend to keep everything. I was blessed to be able to upgrade my mid-2010 15-inch MacBook Pro to a brand new 13-inch late-2014 model MacBook Pro. In doing so, I found myself downgrading my storage space to only 128GB. This means I have to be very choosy about what files I store and what apps I keep. This can be a a daunting task to anyone who is a digital hoarder, like myself, but I am determined to keep my storage in check and not find myself exceeding any storage space limits. One tool that will help me with this is Precious Disk.
Precious Disk is a utility app for Mac that scans your disks to discover where your biggest files are being stored or hidden. To use it, you quite simply choose a disk for the app to scan and click scan. Precious Disk then returns a thorough analysis of your files being stored. Some of the features include:
- Multiple scanning in parallel (USB, Hard Drive, Memory Stick, Folders)
- Intuitive and efficient visualization of your files
- Quickly find any hidden heavy files
- Reveal in finder or Quick Look for previewing file content
- Move any files or folder to the trash
- Get all important information about your disk
- Translated in English, French and Russian
- Retina display and fullscreen support
Let’s start by looking at the ease of function of the Precious Disk. As I mentioned, you start by choosing a disk – whether it be internal or external – and then you click ‘scan’. This will create an analysis of your disk and all the files stored on it. That’s all the heavy lifting users have to do. The rest of the user experience is dedicated to reviewing the files. Precious Files is very easy to use and the functionality of the app is most impressive.
One thing I was really struck with was the striking beauty of the layout. It would have been easy for a developer to create a file storage management system like Precious Disk without creating a tasteful, stylish interface. Luckily, Precious Disk’s developer, Stephane Queraud, decided to work with the interface and design something that was very eye-pleasing as well as functional. All of the text is easy to read and the use of color coding was a good idea.
I recommend this app to anyone who wants to keep track of their storage space and storage trends. For more information, visit sovapps.com/precious-disk. Precious Disk retails for $9.99 and is available in the Mac App Store.
