Port Plugs iPhone Accessory Review:
Port Plugs provides stylish, affordable, and efficient protection that blends seamlessly with the unique design of your iPhone.
We have a client who operates with his delivery team almost exclusively though iPhone use. Because they deliver different types of goods throughout the day, they are constantly taking their phones in and out of their pockets and in and out of different, dust-ridden environments. This has caused our client many headaches in the past because he has had to replace multiple iPhones due to dust that is literally gotten trapped under his screen. How did it get there? It’s simple. Dust particles of all kinds travel into your phone and other mobile devices through its open ports. In the case of our client, he used his so much that dust and dirt of many different types made its way up under his screen. In other cases, pocket lint, direct, sand, and other debris can cause poor connectivity, loss of functionality and costly repairs. So, what’s the solution? Port Plugs.
Port Plugs are a simple yet effective problem-solving addition to your mobile device. This unique dust plug was designed to cover the open ports of your iPhone and to specifically fit its body style. The curves of the different types of plugs blend seamlessly with the design of the phone so that it’s not intrusive and nearly invisible.
We were fortunate to test out three different types of Port Plugs with our iPhone 6. They are easy to use, affordable and add just a little bit of flare to your iPhone.
iPhone 6 Aluminum Dust Plug Set
This model of Port Plug is made with a colorful aluminum tip – available in Rose, Blue, Gunmetal and Silver and food grade silicone that will not tear. The set has one lightning plug holder and one headset plug. They are custom molded and curved to fit the design of the iPhone frame.
iPhone 6 Curved Dust Plug
Like the Alumnium Dust Plug, this set provices a stylish way to protect your phone’s most vulnerable spots. With this set you get 5 complete sets of plugs – one for the lightning port and one for the headset jack. This set is available in black, white or clear and is made from the same food grade silicone as the Aluminum option and has a tip on the headset plug.
iPhone 6 Dust Plug UniPlug Set
This style of Port Plug is one solid piece of silicone. It’s available in black, white and clear. This unique 2-in-1 design seals the 3.5mm earphone jack and lightning port simultaneously.
First Impressions/Utility
So, after the brief descriptions I’ve given, let me tell you about the experience I’ve had with the different renditions of the Port Plugs. First of all, I did have the thought, “Is this product really necessary?” Then, I thought about our client with the broken iPhones due to dust. And immediately, I decided, “Yes, this is something that’s needed.” It solves a problem that most people don’t even consider throughout their day.
Taken these tiny wonders out of their boxes for the first time, I thought they were made incredibly well. The one I took a particular liking to was the aluminum version. It adds a bit of style and combines the function with flare. One concern I immediately had was the potential of losing something so small. After all, at least once a day I have to cast the lightning plug aside to charge my powerless phone. Fortunately, Port Plugs also includes a set of dust plug holders with the Aluminum model of plugs.
The dust plug holders are designed to attach to the cables of the Apple Earbuds and the Apple branded Lightning charging cables. They are a really nice tight fit and the plugs also fit in nice and tight. I don’t have any concerns about them falling out of the holders. The Curved Dust Plug and the UniPlug sets come in multiple sets in the shipment. So, if you lose one, you have most waiting in the wings.
I found that the ‘fit’ of the Aluminum and Curved plugs were perfect. They sit flush with the phone and/or case and blend perfectly with the phone’s natural shape – as advertised. The UniPlug I had a little problem with. The version we got was for the iPhone 6, and we tested it on an iPhone 6, but it seemed as though the plug was just a bit too short for both pieces to fit into the ports on the phone. I tried several different pieces from the kit that was sent to us, but had the same results with each one.
Conclusions
I really like the Port Plugs. I think they have a solid reason for being and the design fits so well with the style of the phone that it’s a welcome accessory. The only ‘issue’ I had was having to take my case on an off my phone so much in order to take the plugs – especially the headset plug – out of the ports. I’d rather have to dot that than have to replace my phone due to dust, but it did become a bit bothersome.
I can recommend this product as it’s got solid construction and a unique style. Each set is less than $10 and is well worth the price.
