User Experience
When I unboxed the PNY Pro Elite V3 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Flash Drive (512GB), I was immediately impressed by its sleek design and high-speed specs. However, before I could even get my hands on it, I had to deal with the dreaded blister pack. I’m honestly surprised that after all these years, no one has come up with a better way to package flash drives.
Cutting through that thick plastic without either damaging the drive or stabbing myself with scissors was more of a struggle than it should have been. Once I finally freed it, though, the flash drive itself felt premium and solid, with a metallic black finish and a smooth sliding mechanism to protect the USB-C connector. Plugging it into my USB-C port, my MacBook Pro recognized it instantly.
Since there is no special software to use with the flash drive, I got started right away with read/write data transfer tests. When I test any type of data storage, I run three tests:
Blackmagic Disk Speed Test

AJA System Test Lite is a benchmarking tool designed to measure the read and write performance of storage devices, including external drives, SSDs, and flash drives. It is widely used by video professionals to test whether a drive can handle high-resolution video workflows, including 4K and 8K formats. The tool simulates real-world file transfers by writing and reading large video-like data blocks, helping users determine if their storage is suitable for high-bitrate media editing and playback.

Real-Time Drag-and-Drop Test
I conduct a real-world test by manually transferring a large folder containing mixed file types and sizes to and from the drive while timing the process. This provides a direct sense of the drive’s performance under actual usage conditions, rather than relying solely on synthetic benchmarks.
Using the stopwatch feature on my iPhone, I timed how long it takes a file or folder to copy to the selected hard drive. In this case, I copied a folder with 3.9GB of data in it. The transfer took 1:05.34 minutes, which equated to a transfer rate of 61.12 Mb/s

However, the real-world file transfer test was much lower, which suggests that performance may vary based on file types, system conditions, or sustained workloads.
