The Plemo Laptop Sleeve provides a portable, convenient, and stylish method to carry your Macbook or laptop.
I take pride in the quality of my stuff, a trait that was instilled into me as a youth. From Comics, cards, video games, toys, books and eventually to my car and ultimately to my electronics, I try to keep my gear as close to mint as possible. This has helped me multiple times in my life, when selling unused or old-to-me items such as my PS2, Xbox 360, Gameboy, NES etc. To be fair, some of these sales still invoke a rather visceral buyers remorse. It is this attention to detail and the goal to keep the item perfect, that makes me utilize cases. My iPhone 7 plus lives inside of an Otterbox Defender case, my iPhone 6s plus lived inside of a Catalyst Case, and my iPad Air 2 is inside of an Otterbox as well. Let me explain my case OCD. I have 3 children (7 and 5-year-old boys and 19-month-old girl), who do not share the same desire to keep stuff perfect. What’s worse, my wife appears to have a personal vendetta against phones. So you may understand that I have a similar gut wrenching feeling when I see people meandering around without any type of protection on their devices. Worse, my stomach flips when I see young children handling a minimally cased device. My brain shouts a very loud internal “NOOOOOOOO.”
At times a full laptop case, briefcase or other shoulder sling provides an advantage to carrying around your gear. However, these are not always ideal for that quick trip to dinner, to the coffee shop or to another errand, where you may have some downtime to work on your computer. They may be too heavy, too bulky or just not the right fit for a quick trip. In those instances, a sleeve often works well, if not better for portability and protection. When choosing the right bag for the right venue, there are tradeoffs that you must consider. Often full shoulder slings/laptop bags have room for your charging gear and accessories. Thus they are better for longer trips or for when you are packing heavier. The sleeves typically only have room for the computer and possibly an admin section for business cards/pens/pad of paper etc. Another major difference, the sleeves typically are not handsfree, relying on hand carrying or for you to slide them into a larger bag.
I have received a Plemo Protective Sleeve for Laptop computers, which is designed to fit a 15-15.6″ laptop. The product arrives in a rather plain cardboard box with the name PLEMO on the front and the address for the company in Hong Kong. Inside of the box is a clear-plastic-wrapped laptop sleeve, which is a textured black PVC leather sleeve-style case. Immediately you are treated to a mixed plastic-like odor and new car smell in one. It really does remind you of that first time you get into your new car. The surface is smooth and well made, with a really well done ribbed/textured feel to the leather. The case measures 16 1/4″ wide by 12 1/4″ tall by 1 1/4″ and weighs13.8ounces. The main bag compartment has 2 zippers on a 22″ zipper track. Both have PLEMO zipper pulls with white lettering on the black zipper pull. The bottom zippered opening, has a single zipper, resting on a 7.5″ zipper track. This is a small opening, which will allow you to charge your computer while it is inside of the bag. This is a convenient feature, that is only on one side of the bottom. Without any writing on the case, it really does make it difficult to know which side is which. My Macbook did get a little warm inside of the case, after letting it sit and charge for 2 hours. I would do not know that I would leave it on charge beyond the needed timeframe, while inside of the sleeve. Charging the battery to full seemed to do just fine.
Opening the top zipper, you will immediately notice the quality of the stitching along the zippers. The zipper pulls are a good length and the zipper mechanism is quite smooth. Once inside, the main compartment dimensions are 15 1/8″ x 11 1/4″ x 7/8″ thick. The case is made of 3 layers, the outer PVC waterproof layer, a shock resistant middle layer and a plush, soft gray anti-static inner fabric layer. I am not certain if the bag is water resistant or simply water delaying. It will not stop any form of submersion and a heavy rain may find its way inside the bag. The outer layer will deflect water, I am just concerned about the zippers. The inner layer is very soft and provides an impressive amount of protection against scratching and against bumping/brushing.
There is another zippered compartment along one of the sides of the inside of the bag. The soft foam does protect the zipper compartment, which shows an attention to detail. Opening this 15″ zipper compartment, you will notice an admin pocket. The admin section is made up of 3 pouches and 2 pen compartments. The left pocket is 2 1/4″ wide by 4 1/4″ tall. There is a slightly smaller pocket in front of the left most pocket. The right pocket is 4″ wide by 4 1/4″ tall pouch and there are two pen sleeves between the pouches. These work well for business cards, pens etc. The lining of this compartment is a black nylon material, which is not as protective as the plush layer inside the main bag. The compartment is big enough for an 8 1/2″ by 11″ sheet of paper and would easily accommodate a spiral notebook. It will hold your phone charger or you could also store your phone in this compartment if desired. Anything you place in this administrative section will reduce the amount of space inside the main compartment. I would not store the Apple charger in this sleeve, as it would possibly stretch out the sleeve or scratch/damage the Macbook.
If you are looking for an attractive, protective, sleeve style case for your 15inch Macbook, this sleeve will serve you well. Looking over the amazon pages, I was unable to find one that would ship to the United States. This is a rather large limitation. Overall, the build seems solid. The case fits the Macbook very well and will accommodate other brands up to 15.6 inches. I would rate the sleeve at 4/5 stars.
