The Pixelmator Team today released Pixelmator Pro 2.1, codenamed Coral, a major update to the award-winning Mac image editor designed to make powerful professional tools accessible to everyday users. The latest major update includes a redesigned AI-powered Crop tool, the ability to quickly fill any layer with color using drag and drop, a way to automatically paint brushstrokes along paths and shapes, redesigned Paint and Type tools, and much more.
“Pixelmator Pro is designed to be an incredibly versatile and full-featured creative app,” said Simonas Bastys, the lead developer of Pixelmator Pro. “With this major update, we’ve included great improvements for photographers, illustrators, graphic designers, and painters that we’re sure our users are going to love.”
The redesigned Crop tool brings a number of new features, including ML Crop, which provides users with suggestions for eye-catching crops according to a machine learning algorithm trained on a set of professionally cropped photos. As users hover over different aspect ratio presets, the Crop tool will now intelligently position the crop rectangle using the ML Crop algorithm. In addition, the Crop tool now includes the ability to adjust perspective, making it easier than ever for photographers to crop and straighten their shots in Pixelmator Pro. To help photographers get the perfect composition, the Crop tool now lets users choose different crop overlays based on various composition techniques such as the rule of thirds, the golden ratio, the golden spiral, and others.
The all-new Quick Fill feature lets users fill any layer with a color by simply dragging and dropping colors from a color well onto objects on the canvas or in the Layers sidebar. In a layer-based editing workflow, selecting a layer to edit is a key part of the creative process and, thanks to Quick Fill, changing the colors of objects is now even simpler and more intuitive than before.
Pixelmator Pro 2.1 Coral includes a new Stroke with Brush feature, allowing users to automatically paint perfect brushstrokes along all kinds of layers, including paths, shapes, and selections. Together with all the brush settings currently available in Pixelmator Pro, Stroke with Brush also adds the ability to simulate graphics tablet pressure, delivering full creative control. Thanks to a painting engine powered by the advanced graphics technology Metal, Pixelmator Pro is able to display a live preview of the brush stroke on the canvas that instantly updates as users adjust basic and even advanced brush settings.
Today’s major update brings a wide range of additional new features and improvements, such as a redesigned Paint tool that adds brush stroke smoothing and an all-new brush browser, a redesigned Type tool with the ability to adjust text size in five convenient ways, advanced paragraph spacing and indent formatting, and much more.
