World’s smallest iOS card reader provides additional storage for iOS devices.
This tiny wonder has just become my favorite iOS accessory. For many years, I have struggled with having enough storage on my iPhone. Now, my phone has become my primary camera and I run out of storage space 10X faster than ever before. I try to empty my photos and videos as much as possible, but sometimes, you just run out of space at the worst possible time. That’s what the PhotoFast CR-8800 iOS Card Reader is for. The Micro SD card reader with a Lightning connector is tiny – only about the size of a thumb tip. It’s designed to give you the option to transfer, backup, or store data from your iOS devices with ease and flexibility.
At its core, the PhotoFast CR-8800 is just a card reader that was made to work with iOS devices. It’s efficient and provides a quick connection between your iOS device and an external storage device – like a Micro SD card. The CR-8800 is compatible with iOS versions 7 and up and it works with iPhone models 5/5c/5s/6/6 Plus/6s/6s Plus/SE, iPad Air/Air2/Mini/Pro. The PhotoFast will read many different formats including:
- Document: Pages, Numbers, Keynote, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, rtf, txt, html, pdf
- Image: jpg, png, bmp, gif, tif, tiff, ico, xbm, cur
- Audio: mp3, aac, aif, aiff, wav, m4a, caf
- Video: mp4, mov, m4v (without DRM), mkv, avi, flv, rm, rmvb, wmv, vob, 3gp, H.264
- Others: zip
To get started with the CR-8800 iOS Card Reader, you first have to download the correct app. It’s a free app on the iTunes App Store. You can download it here. When you first open the app you will see a screen that shows you all the ways you can access storage areas and third-party options like Dropbox. The nice thing about the app is that you can actually use some in-app storage with the PhotoFast app even if you don’t have a device connected. When you connect a device like the CR-8800, you will have to grant permissions to allow the app access to the card. Once you have a card reader attached to the app, you have all new options available to you. You can connect various Internet services like Vimeo and YouTube, and you can also backup data from apps like Tumblr. You can also move the icons for the options around similar to how you can move apps around in the iOS interface.
For my purposes, I use PhotoFast for general backup of data on my phone. My photo library is usually the hard drive hog of my phone. So, I immediately used the Photo Backup option in the PhotoFast menu. You have two choices – Backup and Restore. To begin, you simply tap on Backup and the app immediately begins pulling photos from my Photo Library onto the Micro SD card that was safely resting inside the CR-8800. I had 242 photos stored on my phone and the entire transfer took around 2 minutes to complete. I am very impressed with how quickly the card reader transfers files and the ease of use that the app provides. If your phone goes to sleep, then you will have to disconnect the card reader and reconnect it so that the app will reconnect to it.
The PhotoFast CR-8800 iOS Card Reader is a great accessory for any iOS device users. It’s a sturdy little device that provides a valuable service. It comes in a variety of colors to suit your particular taste. For me, having the PhotoFast CR-8800 means I no longer have to worry about missed photo opportunities when my phone is full.
