With a powerful clamp, bright LED lights and a flexible neck, you can enjoy light the way you want it.
Even though experts typically recommend that the bed should be used for sleep and certain adult activities, I find one of my favorite places to read is in bed. I have traditionally relied upon bedside lamps, headlamps, and book lights to provide enough light to read. When I say that I like to read, I mean actual paper books and not electronic sources. Do not get me wrong, I do love my Kindle and my Kindle Apps on my iPad and iPhone, but there is just something about holding a hardback or paperback book. The backlit nature of tablets can prove quite convenient and negates the need for accessory lighting options. Books do not have this option and the above methods have proven to be disappointing. The light may not be bright enough, close enough, or it may cast shadows upon the book. Lastly, as with a headlamp, it may be too close and cause glare.
The OxyLED LED Desk Lamp may be the perfect option for you bibliophiles. The lamp arrives in a very professional appearing retail box, with a good representation of a clamp style lamp on the cover. The gray color has a very subtle contrast with the white color of the light and really does a good job at catching your eye. Rotating the packaging ninety degrees, clockwise, you will notice the specifications of the lamp: input voltage DC 5V (included 52 inch USB A to light adaptor cable), 3800-4500K color, 220 lumens, no mercury or lead, 1/3 lower power, 20K hour lifetime, stepless dimming. When you open the package, you will notice the light, the power cable, a 2-panel instruction manual and a warranty card (details emails and warranty).
Open the package and remove the single piece lamp. You will immediately notice a seamless, sleek exterior. There are no toggles, no switches, nor any other physical buttons. You will find the power port along the bottom right side of the lamp. Otherwise, you have a single piece lamp, composed of a body clamp, a flexible neck, and a LED light bar. The clamp measures 2 3/4 inches wide by 5 3/4 inches tall and 2 inches wide (clamped). The clamp will open to accommodate roughly a 2-inch surface. This is perfect for headboards, cabinets, end tables, etc. Basically, if you can fit the clamp onto the surface, the incredibly strong spring will hold the light in place. Each surface of the clamp has a ribbed, rubberized, material, which allows for increased grip on your furniture. Adjacent to the clamp is a 14 1/2 inch long, 1/2 inch diameter, non-ratcheting, flexible neck. The rubberized/flexible material seems to have an infinite number of bendable positions. The movement proved to be very smooth and once positioned, was very secure. Just beyond the flexible neck, you will find the 4 11/16 inch long by 2 7/8 inch wide by 3/4 inch thick light.
Located on the top of the clamp is the OxyLED logo and a power icon. If you touch the power icon, the light will illuminate via capacitative touch. If you hold the button, the light will either dim or illuminate, depending on the last state of the light. If it is bright, it will dim. Lift your finger and replace it and then it will brighten again. I love this feature, as it does not continue to cycle illuminate/dim. Basically, the light will stop changing at full brightness or full dim, until you lift and retouch the button. After you are finished with the light, the flexible neck will allow you to fold the light over the base, decreasing the visible footprint of the light. When ready to use it again, you can angle the lamp to your desired angle, touch the button and enjoy lighting at the previous illumination level. When the light runs low, there will be a red LED that illuminates on the clamp. You can then recharge the light and enjoy it again.
The lamp has 2 rows of 8 LEDs, which provide a really nice, glare free, lighting experience. The device has a 1200mAh battery, which is reported to provide 16 hours of light. I have used the light for roughly 1-2 hours nightly, for the past 7 days, and I have only recently had to charge the device for the first time. I left it on charge overnight and it was fully charged 6 hours later. I wish the LED head was removable/replaceable, but unfortunately, when the LED lights burn out, you will need to purchase a new device. I have been personally very pleased with this light and it has fulfilled my bedside lighting need. When alone in bed, I did not use the dimming feature. Rather, I would adjust the angle/distance of the lamp from the book. However, when my wife was also in bed, trying to sleep, I considerately used the dimming feature. Now, I need to get a device for myself, as my wife has taken a liking to the lamp. It is a very good lamp and we both rate the device at 5/5 stars.
