The perfect accessory for a day at the beach
In a few weeks, I will be relaxing on a beach in Florida. Because of this trip, I have been on the hunt for something that will protect my wallet and iPhone while I’m out and about. I have cases that could cover the phone but that still leaves my wallet unprotected. This is where the OtterBox Drybox 3250 comes into play. It’s a small portable box and, like the name suggests, it will stay dry. It is, in fact, the perfect box to keep my family’s iPhones and other belongings safe while playing on the beach or in the water.
The Drybox from Otterbox is specifically designed to keep your precious electronics and other valuables safe and dry from the elements. It is waterproof up to 90 feet for 30 minutes. That means, if it happens to be dropped into the deep end of a standard consumer swimming pool, you should be able to easily dive for it before you devices get waterlogged. The Drybox is made from polycarbonate with stainless steel hinge and latch pins. It has an interior foam liner and a pressure release slot. The lock holes are 0.1875″ in diameter.
The box is compatible with most backpacks that allow you to attach accessories with a carabiner. It’s modular so you can stack more than one for organized storage. The Drybox meets IP68 requirements for protection against the elements, which means that can not only be submerged deeper than 1 meter, but it also prevents any dust or dirt from entering the container. The Drybox design is base on the classic OtterBox style and is considered to be nearly unbreakable.
I am lucky that I get a chance to test the Drybox out before vacation so I would know it’s the perfect solution for my trip. I have placed it through a few different tests like placing it in my sink fully submerged and dropping it with my smartphone from chest high. My underwater experience was wonderful. I kept the Drybox under for around 10 minutes. Once I brought it back up I am happy to report that it was dry inside not even a drip. I can’t say the same about my drop test.
I know this is a Drybox and is meant to keep your devices from getting wet or ran over but when you have just a single iPhone inside you really hear the phone slam hard when dropping the Drybox from chest high. In fact, it dented the thin foam inside the box from one of the corners of the iPhone. It was nowhere nearly bad enough to complain about since if I drop it on the beach it will land in sand anyways and be fine. I just wanted to mention in case someone dropped it on a hard surface. When I had my wallet inside it was not such a thud as it was filled more and the iPhone had less room to jingle around inside.
The Drybox 3250 Waterproof and Crushproof case is wonderful for important items you need to protect. I would caution users to make sure that loose items may not be as protected as when the Drybox is packed full, but otherwise, it’s a very nice option for keeping items safe from elements.
