I work remotely from home and use a webcam daily for video meetings. For a long time, I’ve been using a very trustworthy webcam, but have noticed that it’s quality isn’t what it could be. It’s not a 4K camera and doesn’t have easy to use AI-integrated tools so I started looking for something more modern for my work setup. That’s what led me to the Meet Flip from OBSBOT.

Setup & Installation

Getting the OBSBOT Meet Flip up and running was incredibly easy. I simply connected it to my Mac using the included USB-C connection, and macOS immediately recognized the webcam without any additional setup. I was also able to select the Meet Flip as a camera source in compatible applications without installing OBSBOT’s software, which makes it a convenient plug-and-play option for users who don’t need the additional controls offered by OBSBOT Center.

Attaching the webcam to my monitor was equally straightforward. The integrated mounting mechanism makes it easy to position the camera securely, and the foldable design makes adjusting its position intuitive. My monitor does have a light bar attached, which made getting the Meet Flip properly balanced a little more challenging, but that was more a limitation of my particular setup than the webcam itself.

The folding mechanism feels sturdy during use. It doesn’t feel like something that needs to be handled particularly delicately, and folding the camera also makes it easy to store or transport when it’s not being used. Overall, OBSBOT has done a good job of keeping the initial setup simple, with the Meet Flip essentially ready to use as soon as it’s connected to a Mac.

Video Quality & Performance

The video quality is one of the strongest aspects of the OBSBOT Meet Flip. In well-lit conditions, the 4K image looks wonderful, and I found the overall quality to be noticeably better than what I was getting from my previous webcam. What impressed me even more, however, was how well the Meet Flip performed in lower-light conditions. My office has fairly decent lighting, including a window to my right, a desk lamp to my left, and additional fill lights, yet my previous webcams would still struggle to produce a clear, well-balanced image.

The Meet Flip had no such problem, delivering a bright and detailed picture without requiring me to make major changes to my lighting setup. Autofocus was also responsive and accurate throughout my testing, quickly keeping me in focus without noticeable hunting. HDR further helped brighten the image, particularly when dealing with differences in lighting, while the 4x digital zoom surprisingly maintained the image quality without any obvious degradation.

One thing worth noting, though, is that the 4K capability doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll see a 4K image during every video call. Zoom dynamically adjusts video quality based on factors such as network conditions, available bandwidth, processing resources, and the number of participants, so it can reduce resolution and apply additional compression to keep the meeting running smoothly. So while the Meet Flip can capture a sharp 4K image, the final quality during a Zoom call can ultimately be limited by Zoom’s own video processing and settings rather than the webcam itself.

AI Features & OBSBOT Center

OBSBOT Center is one of the Meet Flip’s strongest companion features, and I found the software very intuitive to use on macOS. I especially like that OBSBOT offers both Lite and Pro versions. The Lite version keeps things simple and easy to understand, while the Pro version provides significantly more controls for users who want to fine-tune their camera and image settings. The AI auto-framing also works very well overall.

There is a slight delay while the camera detects that I’ve moved away from the center of the frame and adjusts accordingly, but once it responds, it does a great job of keeping me properly positioned. Of the available framing options, I found the Upper Body mode worked best for my needs and provided the most natural framing during calls. I also don’t consider features such as background blur, eye tracking, and the built-in teleprompter to be gimmicks.

They all worked well during my testing, and I particularly appreciate having a teleprompter built directly into the software rather than needing to rely on a separate application or hardware solution. OBSBOT Center also provides an impressive amount of control over the camera’s image, with numerous adjustments available for exposure, white balance, and image color. This gives users plenty of flexibility to customize the Meet Flip’s appearance to match their environment and personal preferences.

Microphone & Everyday Use

The Meet Flip’s built-in microphones have performed well during my testing. There is currently very little sound-deadening material in my office, so recordings can sound a little “ringy” because of the acoustics in the room, but my voice still comes through very clearly. I also tested the microphone while music was playing in the background, and the Meet Flip did a good job of isolating my voice without picking up the music, which suggests that its noise reduction and microphone processing do a good job of prioritizing the person speaking.

The camera itself remains stable when adjusting its position and I particularly appreciate the ability to fold the camera closed when I’m finished using it. This provides a simple and effective way to protect my privacy while also making the Meet Flip easier to transport or store.

The Meet Flip has also performed very well during extended video calls. I tested it during a Zoom meeting and asked a coworker how I looked after switching to the Meet Flip. He immediately said I looked better than I had with my previous webcam. However, as more people joined the meeting, with eight participants in total, the video quality dropped somewhat, which I attribute to Zoom’s handling of larger group calls.

One thing I did notice during extended use is that the Meet Flip gets quite warm. I used an infrared thermometer to measure the camera’s temperature after it had been running for an extended period, and the hottest point reached approximately 122°F (50°C). The warmest area was around the hinge. While I didn’t experience any performance issues as a result, it’s something worth noting for anyone who plans to leave the camera running for long periods of time. Overall, though, I have been very happy with the Meet Flip’s performance as an everyday webcam.

After using the OBSBOT Meet Flip as my primary webcam for remote work, I can confidently say that it has been a significant upgrade over my previous webcam. The combination of excellent 4K image quality, responsive autofocus, strong low-light performance, and useful AI features makes it well suited for someone who spends a lot of time on video calls. I also appreciate that it works immediately with a Mac without requiring additional software, while OBSBOT Center provides plenty of additional controls for users who want to customize their experience.
