Nomad began as a Kickstarter project in 2012. Noah Dentzel & Brian Hahn met in Santa Barbara, CA, and set out with a vision of creating a minimalist iPhone cable that would seamlessly integrate into your everyday carry. ChargeCard, Nomad’s first product, launched on Kickstarter on July 18th, 2012. Like many startups, Nomad relied on help from friends, family, and strangers to bring Nomad from concept to reality. The company started off in Noah’s grandma’s basement and bounced around from Agoura Hills to San Francisco and finally back to Santa Barbara, California, where they are headquartered now.
Nomad is much more than a brand name; it is a way of being, a design philosophy, a community, and much more. From a single idea – an ultra-portable, minimalist charging cable – Nomad has built an entire lineup of tools for the 21st-century nomad. Along the way, some core values that unite the entire Nomad community have defined everything we do. Nomad values resourcefulness, seeking adventure, and living in the moment. They believe that the smartphone is the 21st century equivalent of the sword: a tool that everyone can wield and change the world with. Consequently, Nomad builds products to ensure that your smartphone is there whenever you need it.
Nomad is and always will be a company that prioritizes design and quality over everything else. One of the most important aspects to us when designing new products is that we use the highest quality, longest-lasting materials available. We design all of our concepts from the ground up, rather than white labeling existing products. From the Horween Leather we use for our cases and Apple Watch straps, to the rugged Kevlar® construction of our cables, we choose materials that stand out and outlast. It costs more to do so, but the cost isn’t as important as the value that doing so creates.Brian Hahn, Co-Founder & Head of Product
