Now with Offline Mode, Voice Conversations, Website Translation and Verb Conjugations
Although modern translation Apps, such as iTranslate, can help you translate into over 90 languages, millions of travellers find themselves lost in translation whilst abroad, mainly due to high roaming charges or a lack of Internet connection. To help travellers iTranslate now brings comprehensive offline translation capabilities to mobile devices.
In addition to the Offline Mode the new iTranslate App also brings other new and exciting features:
- A voice conversation mode to instantly start full voice to voice conversations in over 40 languages
- A website translation feature that lets you translate full websites within Safari or browse the Web in a foreign language with an In-App Translation Browser
- A feature to look up verb conjugations and tenses – especially handy for language learners
According to a new survey of 28,000 EU citizens, 9 out of 10 Europeans who travel outside their home country limit their use of services like Facebook, because of mobile roaming charges.
“To address this issue we empowered our iTranslate App with an Offline Mode that enables travellers to translate text without any Internet connection,” explains Alexander Marktl, CEO of iTranslate. “To develop this unrivalled feature, we chose to work with Systran, the market leader in intelligent language technologies.”
Jean Senellart, Global CTO of SYSTRAN adds: “We were very excited to meet this challenge and to make it happen. Our engineers and researchers developed very innovative techniques based on machine learning to compress an extremely high volume of information while keeping the same level of quality. We strongly believe that it is the first stage of a new generation of embedded language assistance.”
Users can download language packs for popular language pairs with a few simple taps and use iTranslate freely while travelling. The offline translation feature will initially be available on iOS and for 8 popular language pairs. More language pairs and an Android version will come later this year.
iTranslate for iOS is available as a free download for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Basic language translation is free to use, features such as offline translation, voice conversations and website translation require a PRO subscription, which costs $2.99/month.
