Starting today, June 30, music fans can begin using Apple Music. This new streaming service was announced at this year’s WWDC Keynote Address on June 8.

PST, Apple users can sign up for the service, which is free for the first three months and then $9.99 per month after the introductory period. If you have multiple people in your family, you can sign up for family service, which is a discounted $14.99 per month for up to 6 users in your family. This pricing is in line with other premium streaming music services.

This launch coincides with the release of Apple iOS 8.4, which has to be downloaded before the Apple Music app becomes available to you. Apple Music is also available on your desktop computer through iTunes. There should be a software update for iTunes that will enable that feature. Any Beta testers of iOS 9 will also have access as well.

Apple Music is a single, intuitive app that brings the best ways to enjoy music together in one place. It’s a streaming music service that has been likened to Rdio and Spotify. Users will have the ability to stream music from a personally tailored radio station 24 hours a day. In addition to the streaming music, Apple is also putting the entire Apple Music catalog at users’ fingertips. You can stream any song, album, or playlist you choose, or let the Apple artificial intellegence choose for you.

The radio stations will live in a separate tab of the music app and users will still have the flexibility to create Pandora-style radio stations, too. Users Apple Music libraries will exist alongside their personal iTunes music library.

Apple has structured this new service to connect the user with the artist. There are many features that introduce new material to listeners and provide social media aspects to users while they are listening.

Apple’s ecosystem has long strived to provide music for users in a new and exciting way.

“We love music, and the new Apple Music service puts an incredible experience at every fan’s fingertips,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “All the ways people love enjoying music come together in one app — a revolutionary streaming service, live worldwide radio and an exciting way for fans to connect with artists.”
