Serif celebrates Affinity Designer’s first birthday with a 2-week promotion
Affinity Designer launched in October 2014 to massive fanfare, immediately becoming Apple’s Editors’ Choice, quickly gaining 5-star reviews, decorated as App of the Year 2014 runner up, and then receiving a highly-prestigious Apple Design Award in June 2015.
It’s safe to say its rise has been meteoric with artists, illustrators, web and UI designers and many others loving how this impressive, fresh-faced app has revitalised their work and shaken up the graphic design software industry. It’s been a phenomenal year for Affinity developers, Serif, who also released Affinity Photo in July 2015, which became the #1 Mac photography app in over 100 countries in its first week. Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo work together as part of a suite that is setting a new standard for interoperability.
“Having spent 5 years investing in developing the product, the launch of Affinity Designer a year ago was a pretty nerve-wracking event as it was so critical to the company,” said Ashley Hewson, Serif’s Managing Director. “While we obviously hoped for good things, we could not have predicted just how well received and how successful the product has been in its first year. It gives us the ability to now invest even more heavily in this technology as we recruit more developers (applications wanted!) and push forward with the next phase in the Affinity story—including a publishing product, iPad versions, and many more free updates, all in the next 12 months.”
With Affinity Designer being available for a one-off cost with no subscription, offering free updates for at least the first couple of years was a promise Serif made to its users, and one which it has stuck to. In the last 12 months the developers have introduced Force Touch support, text-on-a-path, saveable undo history, a clever corner tool, isometric grids, lots of new languages, massively improved PSD, PDF, EPS and SVG support and much more. Affinity Designer is compatible with the newly-released El Capitan all the way back to OS X Lion (10.7.5).
The Affinity Designer Mac App Store 20% discount promotion runs from October 7th until October 20th, reducing the price to US$39.99 (from US$49.99).
