Netgear Nighthawk C7000 WiFi Cable Modem Router provides awesome speed and connection reliability.
Remember the days of the constant “power down and power up” message that was a staple with Insight BroadBand ISP – now Time Warner – used to have on repeat when you called customer service. They had so many complaints and calls from people that in my town they started airing commercials with that message to explain to people how to reset the Internet signal to their homes. Those days, the poor Internet signal was due to a lot of janky cable modems and routers out there. I remember having to purchase the modem from the cable company and then the WiFi route from a store. Cable/Modem combo units were simply just not done.
Fortunately, we’ve gone through an Internet revolution since then and consumers are both much more informed and have the power to choose their own hardware for their home networks. I can’t tell you how happy we have left ‘that time’ behind and now have so much amazing technology. In order to take advantage of that technology, you must have a great router and modem to provide Internet. The Netgear Nighthawk C7000 WiFi Cable Modem Router combo is a fantastic hardware option with great flexibility. It allows you to easily setup and maintain your network with no crazy headache of the constant “power down/power up” nightmare from the past.
The Netgear Nighthawk C7000 is the fastest cable modem router available with AC1900 WiFi. With it, you should reach speeds up to 1.9 Gbps. It’s got a powerful 1.6GHz processor that boosts performance for streaming and gaming and 128 MB Flash memory along with 256 MB RAM. The unit has a built-in high-speed DOCSIS® 3.0 24×8 Channel Bonding Cable Modem which reaches up to 960 Mbps download speeds. The Netgear Nighthawk C7000 also boasts some impressive security features such as – customized URL, guest network access, WiFi protected access (WPA, WPA2 – PSK), double firewall protection (SPI and NAT), and denial-of-service (DoS) attack prevention.
One of the features about this router/modem combo unit was that it is so compact. Netgear really packed a lot of power into such a small space. The unit only weighs 1.6lbs, which isn’t bad considering it’s made from exceptional materials. Secondly, it’s got a great monolith-like design to it. It’s fashioned to be vertically oriented and it stands upright. In addition to its four (4) 10/100/1000 Mpbs Ethernet ports, the Nighthawk C7000 also has one USB 2.0 port on it. The device supports the following wireless standards – IEEE® 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz + 256 QAM support and IEEE® 802.11 a/n/ac 5GHz.
The Netgear Nighthawk C7000 is really quite impressive and I am excited that it’s a part of my network now.
For the most part, testing this device has been a very smooth process. The only ‘hiccup’ we experienced was getting it set-up. Again, for the most part, this was a very easy process, but when you set-up a new modem on your network, you have to contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider). This is where the problem came in. The service tech/customer service agent I spoke with didn’t understand what I was doing and messed up some of our settings. This made our Internet connection seem sluggish and useless. At first we thought it might be the Nighthawk c7000. We even contemplated switching back to our older modem/router set-up, but thankfully, we contacted the ISP again and this time, we were connected with a very helpful representative. They switched our settings back to the way they should be and our Internet connection ever since is exactly what we hoped it would be. We’ve found that we have faster Internet all-around, even during peak hours, which a great benefit of the channel bonding.
Nighthawk is app enabled. This makes viewing or changing settings on your network a breeze. Even thought it’s incredibly useful, I find the iOS app for this router to be sort of outdated in the design department. I do appreciate that they tried to design it to be clean and easy to use, but it’s sort of generic. I’ve never been one to enjoy networking devices – let’s be honest, I hate doing it. So, having a combo unit that is easy to use is a blessing. Maybe my opinion is formed from all the years of broken networks and rancid failed products that’s scared me when it comes to setting up and maintaining network systems, but using the Nighthawk has been such a joy that I believe anyone could do it.
If you are setting up a network, home or small office, the Netgear Nighthawk c7000 should be on your short list of options for Internet equipment. It’s a very easy to use, stable, secure, and aesthetically pleasing, too. It’s great that since we’ve set it up, we haven’t had to do anything else with it. We have a lot of smart technology in our home and we’ve not had any issues with setting up the devices with the WiFi. It’s a great device with a very bright future.
