Charge your device with the fastest possible speed.

This time of year, I’m running around from place to place – like we all are – trying to get the holiday activities completed. There is a seemingly endless stream of parties, meals, and shopping trips that occur within the time period between Thanksgiving and Christmas and I can’t afford to be without my trusty holiday companion — my phone. The iPhone 11 Pro (my mobile phone of choice) does have a high-powered built-in battery (3046 mAh), but after being out and about for several hours — sometimes all day long — I still need to recharge it. My favorite types of portable batteries are the ones that have built-in cables and can be plugged into an outlet without any extra cables being attached. Fortunately for me, myCharge recently released the Hub Turbo, which provides up to 75% faster than other power banks with an 18W maximum power delivery output.

DETAILS & FEATURES

The Hub Turbo from myCharge comes in two different capacities — 10,050 or 6,700 mAh (I have the latter). The Hub Turbo 6700 has both a built-in Lightning and USB-C cable as well as a USB-A port for any other devices that might need a power boost. Users can actually charge three devices simultaneously. It’s designed to power tablets, smartphones, and other USB devices. The Hub Turbo features both Power Delivery and Quick Charge technologies, which is why it can charge devices so much faster than other power banks in its class. In addition to the built-in cables, the Hub Turbo has built-in wall prongs for recharging (or charging pass-through) that are foldable when not in use.

USER IMPRESSIONS

One of the first things I noticed about the Hub Turbo was its size. I’ve carried a myCharge Hub-style power bank with me for the past few years and it’s always been around the same size no matter what the capacity was. The Hub Turbo 6700 seemed quite a bit smaller to me when I held it for the first time. Because of this perception, I pulled out my myCharge HubMax Universal, which is a 10,500 mAh battery. Sure enough, when compared side-by-side, the Hub Turbo 6700 is a smaller size than the HubMax. Even though my previous HubMax is a larger capacity, I rather enjoy the smaller form of the Hub Turbo 6700.

myCharge Hub Turbo Power Bank REVIEW

The myCharge universal power banks are a little bulkier than other power banks, but I am honestly not willing to trade off the convenience of having the built-in cables and charging capabilities for a slimmer form factor. The Hub Turbo does come pre-charged, but it’s not 100% pre-charged. Out of the box, the battery was indicating a 75% charge. I plugged it into my iPad Pro and after about 10 minutes, the LEDs indicated that there was only 50% battery left. Later that night, I plugged my phone into the Hub Turbo and the LEDs were showing 75% again without having been charged. Because of this and previous experiences, I’m not completely convinced that the LEDs are an accurate representation of the battery level of the power bank.

To test the battery, I attempted charging my iPad Pro (2017, 10.5-inch), MacBook Pro (2016, 13-inch), and my iPhone 11 Pro. The Hub Turbo had no issues charging the iPad or iPhone and when it came to the MacBook Pro, the computer indicated it was accepting a charge from a power adapter and did show an estimated time until the battery was full. Given that the power bank provides up to 18W of power delivery, I think in a pinch, it could be used to provide power to a MacBook or MacBook Pro. But, I would use it sparingly since it will drain the power bank very quickly and because it’s not rated for charging a laptop.

myCharge Hub Turbo Power Bank REVIEW

When it came to testing out the speed at which the power bank charges a device, I timed how long it took my iPhone 11 Pro to charge. After 14 minutes, it gained 18% battery. This ended up being a charging rate of 0.78% per minute. This is about 30% faster than other power banks I’ve used recently including the myCharge Hub Max.

CONCLUSIONS

I’m very happy with the performance and style of the myCharge Hub Turbo. I love that I can recharge my phone quickly and efficiently simply by plugging it into this power bank. With this smaller form factor and built-in cables, the Hub Turbo is a hard product to beat.
