The Urbana: sensible, professional and stylish.
First, a story.
Upon receiving the Urbana in Bahama Blue, I was asked my opinion on its appeal to men. I was iffy, so I decided to ask a few guys. My fiance said he personally wouldn’t carry it, though he likes the fabric and color scheme generally. A fellow MacSources writer said he thinks it was designed to be unisex, but slightly more for women than men. And then there was Bjorn. Bjorn told me exactly what outfit he owned and would wear with the Urbana (down to the shoes), suggested that he would definitely be willing to take the bag off my hands once I was finished reviewing it, and changed his Facebook profile picture to a shot of him with the bag. So what I got out of all that is that guys are just as particular about their purses as I am.
All opinions, while differing on whether or not they personally would carry the Urbana, agreed that it’s a bag for well-dressed people. The Bahama Blue has a subtle striped pattern that gives a more substantial feel to the bag as a whole. It looks like it’s ready for business. The two contrasting brown accent colors and leather handles add to the effect by making it seem luxurious. Overall, it is sensible, professional, and stylish. If the Bahama Blue isn’t quite your aesthetic, this season’s Urbana is also available in Coral Pink (which I loved on the Mini) and Gray.
The Urbana is marketed as a briefcase on the Moshi site, but I tend to think of briefcases as squarer than this is. This bag has a slim profile but is wider on the bottom than the top to allow it to be freestanding without being boxy. It can comfortably fit up to a 15-inch laptop, along with necessary cords and accessories. The inside is padded to protect your tech, and the outside is weather-resistant for the same reason. There are pockets in the main compartment for your laptop, an iPad, (I’m not quite sure what the tall, narrow-ish pocket next to the iPad pocket is for), and anything else you don’t want to get lost in the bottom of the bag. There’s also a RFID shield zippered pocket for added security. The handles are made of durable PU leather, and it comes with a proprietary ViscoStrap, which helps with the shoulder pain from carrying your 15-inch laptop around all day. A note on the strap: I’m an average height female, and I find the strap unnecessarily long. Yes, it’s adjustable, but I have it almost at its shortest length so it doesn’t bounce against my legs when I walk.
