Charge wirelessly anytime – anywhere

Things have slowed down quite a bit these days. More people are working from home and staying home rather than going out. My fiance used to be one of those people who was constantly on the go. If she wasn’t leaving the house to go to work, then she was running some sort of household errands. She and I both work from home and find plenty to keep ourselves busy with. Even though I’m staying home more than going out, I do use my phone a lot. I’m always communicating with people for work or perusing social media to keep track of current events.  By the end of the day, my phone is completely drained and is usually in desperate need of a charge. One of the reasons I don’t keep it on a charger throughout the day is because I like to be able to see my phone and I don’t want it tethered to a cable-based charger. Fortunately, one of my favorite accessory companies – mophie – has a great new charging option for people like me – the Powerstation Wireless Stand.

DETAILS

The Powerstation Wireless Stand is designed to give your phone a boost while you are at your workstation or on the go. It delivers up to 10W of power wirelessly and can be used as a veritcal charging stand or horizontal/flat charging pad.  The wireless charger is universal and will work with any Qi-enabled phone or accessory. The charger is designed to be able to fold up and go with its user anywhere. It’s compact, but powerful with a capacity of 8,000 mAh. With a full charge, the battery has the ability to provide up to 1.7 full charges of an iPhone (based on an iPhone 11 Pro in Airplane mode). In addition to the wireless charging surface, the Powerstation Wireless Stand also has two USB ports — one USB-A and one USB-C — on the back of the device so that the user can charge additional wired devices. The stand comes with an 18W power adapter and USB-C to USB-C cable.

USER EXPERIENCE

The stand comes in a standard mophie-branded box. There is a very nice image of the product on the front of the box along with some basic information like how long it takes to charge a phone and how many charges a user can get from a full charge of the battery. The back of the box shows off a couple of additional angles of the product and highlights that it can be used for any Qi-enabled compatible devices – including the Apple AirPods Pro. I like that companies provide that kind of product imagery on the packaging when you can’t see the actual product. Inside the box you will find the stand, an 18W power adapter, USB-C cable, and a quick start guide.

One of the first things I noticed about this product was its weight. It’s not ‘heavy’ per se, but it is stout and very solid feeling. The top of the charger is covered in a suede-like material. I love this touch because it ensures that any type of user — even ones that don’t keep their phones in a case — will get safe use from the charger. The suede covering is soft and it protects the back of your iPhone from getting scratched from  the charger’s surface. From its flattened state, the top of the charger slides out and then unfolds in an upward direction so that you can use it as a vertical charging stand. When you are ready to store the charger or use it as a flat charging pad, you can simply fold the top back down.

I tested out the charging in a couple of different ways. First, I wanted to see if my AirPods Pro would indeed charge if placed on the charging mat. After making sure the battery had been charged on the stand, I placed the earbuds onto the surface of the pad and pressed the power button on the side. The LED indicator on the earbuds lit up to show that they were receiving a wireless charging signal. The second test I did was to charge my iPhone 12 Pro using the wireless stand in its vertical position. After 30 minutes, the battery on the phone had gained 13% which ended up being a charging rate of 0.43% per minute. This charging rate is similar to other products I’ve tested including the mophie 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand, which had a charging rate of 0.44% per minute.

CONCLUSION

Over the years, I’ve been very happy with mophie’s charging products. Their build quality and operation have been consistently excellent and this charger is no exception. I love that it’s designed with working people in mind and it gives you the ability to have wireless charging easily accessible without needing to be tethered to a cable.
