View your phone in style with M2 Stand from elago.
For the past week, I’ve been testing out the M2 Stand from elago. It’s a light-weight aluminum stand for smart phones. I’m attracted to products with a clean design so when I saw the M2 Stand it was a must have for me.
elago designed the M2 Stand to hold your device without tipping it. The M2 Stand comes in three color choices – Champagne Gold, Black, and Silver. I decided on the Champagne Gold so that it would match my gold iPhone. I’m happy to report that the gold matches impeccably well and is very complimentary to the style of the iPhone.
The M2 Stand was designed with function in mind as well as style. The stand is set at a perfect angle for receiving incoming video calls, watching movies or just browsing through apps without having to handle your phone. There are two rubber bumpers in the ‘feet’ of the stand that your device will rest on while in the stand. The wide base of the M2 allows the stand to be steady when using your device in either portrait or landscape mode. Plus, the stand has two rubber strips along the bottom that keep it from scratching the surface you have it sitting on.
Designed to allow you to charge while your device is resting on, the M2 Stand has created two slots in the back that allow for both the charging cable and an auxiliary cable for connection to speakers. These slots keep the stand looking streamlined even when cables are being used. Speaking of slots, elago also cut two small holes in the curve of the stand so while in portrait mode the sound of your iPhone will be able to leak out the bottom of the stand rather than being muffled.
elago has printed text on the back of your stand and a sticker on the front for branding purposes. The printed text is not overwhelming so it’s not going to distract from the stand’s elegant look. The sticker on the front could be used to help keep your device from getting scratched up if being used without a case, but since it’s mainly there for branding, it’s not really big enough to stop a bar phone from resting on the aluminum.
The M2 Stand is shown on elagodesign.com featuring the iPhone 5S. It was designed and released prior to the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Therefore, the larger phones end up overpowering the M2 Stand since it’s designed for a smaller base phone. That being said, it does hold the larger phones well and I don’t feel as though my phone is in danger of being damaged simply because it’s larger. elago does offer a larger stand for tablets in the same design as the M2 called the P2. Even though it’s designed for tablets, it might be a good choice for some of the larger smartphones in the market like the iPhone 6 Plus. The only concern I had for this particular design is for users who do not use cases on their iPhones. For those users, you will end up resting your aluminum backed iPhone onto aluminum and as a result, you could damage your phone. If you have a case protecting your iPhone, this stand is fantastic.
