Letter Way is great for people who like puzzle and word games.
Letter Way by Amusing Mind is an attractive game for people who, like me, enjoy puzzle and word games. The idea is simple: you start out with a 5 by 5 board of tiles – 5 of which are flipped to reveal letters. You then use these letters to spell out a word, which flips the tiles adjacent to each used letter, revealing more letters until you clear the board. The first few levels explain the game interface, which is straightforward and caters to both the click-and-drag types and the jab at the screen types (yes, I’m among the latter).
I have to admit, I downloaded this Letter Way two days ago and have gotten through fifty levels already (I did, however, mute the sounds and background music after the first 2). As you progress, the board changes just enough to keep it interesting, varying the size of the board, the patterns, the number of starting letters, how many words you can enter before you lose the game, and adding tiles that have to be flipped twice. At higher levels, it takes a fair amount of strategy to clear the board in the allotted number of turns, and there is a certain sense of accomplishment that comes from clearing a board that threw three Vs or a Q without a U into play.
There are eighty levels in all, and I look forward to besting the remaining 30 or so while I’m procrastinating on other things. Letter Way is a free download for both iOS and Android, and though you can upgrade to get rid of the adds which pop up between levels, the ads themselves aren’t that cumbersome. You can also share your progress on Facebook once you clear each level. Overall, I recommend Letter Way to anyone who enjoys word challenges or wants to exercise their vocabulary of words containing a lot of Xs, Vs, and Zs.
